My parents baught me a car about 4 years ago it was a 2014 and i loved it but it had issues through out the years i was driving it.Around the end of last year the turbo blew and it was a pretty big fix around 7k.I explained to them that it isnt even worth that much now and should just get a new car (i would be buying it myself)and sell this one as is for however much its worth .But they insisted on fixing it and to keep driving it. A few months go by and i get in a bad accident while being the passenger in someone elses car and had to go to the er for a concussion and other injuries.I got a settlement and once i got it they felt like i owed them the 7k to fix it.They explained that it was my car and that i should be the one paying the fix.I went ahead and payed them back and drove it for a few more months until it started to have a pretty bad exhaust leak and decided to just get a new car.Fast forward to today we had a conversation about the car with me saying that its still my car since i put the 7k towards it and they gave it to me as my first car.They said that it was their car now since i got a new car and that they are still owing a little on it.I said ok if its your car i would want the 7k back since I fixed their car.AITA For wanting money back from my parents.
$7,000 of repairs on a 10 or 11-year-old car is EXACTLY when you get a new(er) car. We had that exact scenario happen last year. So it was time to say bye-bye.
What the hell are your parents thinking? That $7k would’ve be a very nice down payment on something that else. I assume you’re on the young side and stuck living with them?
