AITA? I made my first posts today and both got removed. The OG post: Why can’t I hide .gov sources from Google News?

I am frustrated that I can’t manage my Google News (GN) feed to exclude certain propaganda. I have used it religiously for over a decade and loved the fact that I could eliminate news sources that I found unreliable or excessively slanted. This allow people to block, say, NYT or Fox from their news feeds.

Lately, GN has been showing me these headlines from .gov sources to an extreme degree. Attached is an example from today. These headlines do not meet basic journalistic standards. I used the GN feature to “hide all stories from…” as I have for years, but it doesn’t work for .gov. Is this now a propaganda tool?

So I posted this issue and question to the Google News Sub and they deleted my post for having nothing to do with Google News. I also posted it to my local community sub who also censored me. I kinda get that one, as it isn’t solely focused on my community, but only get it a little because my ability to get community news is also impacted directly by this issue. I don’t understand why these two moderators blocked my posts.

AITA?

  1. It was removed because there is no conflict to judge. This isn’t the place to post something like this.

    1. Then where is? My local community sub blocked it. The Google News Sub blocked it for not being about Google News. Is there anywhere on Reddit this question will get discussed and maybe some ideas about alternatives, or is the same censorship occurring here?

      1. I don’t know. Reddit is a big place, I’m sure you can find something. A sub where people pass judgement on who’s at fault in interpersonal conflicts isn’t the place to discuss media ethics.

        1. I love being able to come to Reddit and find information, perspectives and solutions. So, I searched on this topic and didn’t fund posts. So I added a post. Reddit suggested Google News. They blocked it. Reddit suggested my community. They blocked it. Reddit suggested AITA. I can guess what’s about to happen next. What a disappointment.

          1. r/censorship exists. Idk, r/unpopularopinion r/ITSupport ot r/techsupport

Instead of looking for subreddits yourself, you relied on automated suggestions, decided to come here, post without reading the rules, and are now shocked that your post is getting removed.

          2. Censorship is a good one, thank you. It’s clear the Google News Sub is doing exactly that.

It has nothing to do with IT or Tech Support.

I did read the rules- it’s a conflict between me and the GN mod – which fits the bill for AITA. Apparently, though, it’s not salacious enough to be of interest here.

      2. YTA for posting here. That’s not what the sub is for. We come here for juicy gossip and to judge other others moral compasses. Not to answer IT questions.
