AITA, My partner (21M) is mad that I (22F) am going out for Mardi Gras even though it falls on Valentine’s Day

For context me and my boyfriend are long distance ( 3000 miles). He is in the army and I am in the Midwest. We celebrate the weekend before the day Mardi Gras falls on. He is mad that I am going out with my work friends, who are all female just because it’s on Valentine’s Day. During the weekends he usually hangs out with his friends and goes to bars, snowboarding, drinking, etc and I don’t say anything. It is not often I go out, I was invited and it has been a couple months since I have gone anywhere…am I being inconsiderate towards his feelings, when all we would do is sit on FaceTime together and bedrot? We FaceTime every day whenever we both can and often sleep on the phone together so Valentine’s Day isn’t something special for us at the moment.. AITA?

  1. NTA. I’m sure you can still find some time to FaceTime at some point in the day but you shouldn’t have to waste your entire day just to FaceTime with someone

  2. NTA but to give your bf the benefit of the doubt , maybe he’s just already feeling a bit blue that you can;t spend the day together. maybe you can plan a special virtual date for the day before or after and just show him a little extra love and attention then. if that doesn’t help then i’m afraid he’s just being a bit of a whiny willy imo

  3. INFO: are you and/or your fiance aware that Mardi Gras is on 17 Feb this year? Is there any reason why you usually celebrate Mardi Gras on a weekend in March, rather than when it actually occurs?

    1. Mardi Gras is in February I just accidentally put St.Patricks day I was thinking of the colors. It’s fixed now

      1. – Valentine’s: red, pink, white
        – St. Patrick’s Day: Kelly green
        – Mardi Gras: purple, green, gold

Um…how are these the same colors?

  4. NAH – Maybe…

I think you would be if he was coming out to see you, but it sounds like he just wants you to have a valentine’s day face call? Could you not just do that at a time when you’re not out?

But also, have you considered the possibility that he was planning to fly out to surprise you and is now panicking that you made other plans?

If he’s not coming out to see you and just wants you to sit on facetime all day, then he might be TA slightly, but he might be missing you or feeling lonely on Valentine’s day etc.
