AITA that I didn’t tell my parents my dog was pregnant, now gave birth?

My dog got pregnant by my neighbor and I didn’t know what to do, so I just hid her pregnancy from them because I don’t know how they are going to react, only my sister knows and grandma. However, I got back from work today and now my dog has puppies, found six alive and one died in birth I think. But I think I should tell them that she has puppies now because they visit my house constantly and will find out anyway, I just don’t know how to tell them something I hid for 2 months. Does this make me an asshole because I fear their reaction, idk how I’m going to tell them.

  1. YTA for leaving the dog alone to give birth and not fully utilizing your family support system to make sure someone could watch the dog while you were at work. It is not right to leave a pet alone for that sort of thing, there could have been serious complications, and as it is one puppy did not survive. Also for not spaying your dog.

Just poor pet ownership all around.

~~I N F O:~~ can you confirm that you don’t expect your parents to care for the dog or the puppies, and that you don’t live in the same home as them?

    1. Guarantee this dog also lives outside. This poor, poor animal.
Hope OP does better for mama and her puppies’ care going forward.

  2. NTA…. I’m assuming you’re an adult so I don’t understand why they would have to know or why you would hide it?

    Also, spay your damn pet.

    1. Yeah are the parents religious and don’t believe in pre marital? Are the parents mean and judgemental of OP and will berate OP for not having dog fixed? I feel there is a reason.

      1. Lmfao at the concept of premarital sex between dogs, implying the possibility of marital sex between dogs

          1. When I was in elementary school two of my friends had very similar fuzzy little white dogs, like a Bichon without the papers or something. One was male and one was female. My friends had a little wedding ceremony for them, as you might expect eight year old girls to do. Perhaps OP’s parents would find this union agreeable…

Of course, both of those dogs were spayed/neutered, because my friends’ parents were responsible pet owners.

        1. Shout out to the 2nd grader who asked me if cats got married, and then asked me how they could have kittens if they didn’t get married first.

  3. Info: why does it matter to your parents that your neighbor(‘s dog) impregnated your dog and your dog had puppies?

If my adult child’s dog had puppies, as long as I wasn’t excluded from the puppy shower, I can’t imagine caring that I didn’t know about the pregnancy before the birth as long as my child was responsible enough to find them good homes and then spay the birthing dog so it didn’t happen again.

  4. INFO are you actually talking about a dog or are your parents about to find out they are going to be grandparents?

  5. I’m thinking you must be young and still reliant on your parents if you’re worried about how they’ll react, even though you don’t live with them. As long as you can afford to take care of the dog and the puppies and give them the best care possible, you aren’t the asshole for not telling your parents. If you’re financially reliant on your parents and need their help to care for the puppies and your dog, then YTA. Probably should not have a dog, especially a dog that isn’t spayed if that is the case.

However, regardless of your financial situation, YTA for leaving your dog alone while it gave birth. That’s not cool – pregnant dogs require round the clock care. Please ensure the puppies get sent to good homes, and spay your dog before this happens again!

  6. It is fine you didn’t tell your parents, but YTA for not getting your pet fixed or taking appropriate measures to ensure she is ok while giving birth. Find appropriate homes for the puppies and get your dog to the vet and get her spayed.
