How It Started
Angie mentioned she might be moving, and I lightly brought it up in a small group chat with only 2 other people. I didn’t share details, didn’t expose anything, and only one person in that chat even knows Angie in real life, which is Jake. Angie told me a few minutes later not to bring it up, and I stopped immediately. It should’ve ended there, but once jake joined the chat, everything suddenly became tense and defensive for no reason.
When jake Brought Up Derek
Randomly, Jake said he thought Derek was moving too. I replied “Oh my g thank GOD” because I honestly don’t like Derek and have real reasons why. Instead of asking or trying to understand, Jake instantly got mad. He said things like “You hate him for nothing,” “You’re disrespectful for no reason,” and “You keep talking about me when you won’t admit Derek did nothing.” Then out of nowhere he said he was going to “send screenshots to Sara” Screenshots of what? Nothing bad even happened. That’s when everything blew up.
The Argument
After that, trying to explain myself to Jake was impossible. He kept twisting my words and saying things like “What’s this even about,” “You’re changing the subject,” and “This is pointless.” I kept trying to tell him why I said what I said and why I don’t like Derek, and he just ignored all of it. I know I’m not perfect, but I had every right to be upset at how he handled things.
What Sara Told Me
About ten minutes after Jake said he sent screenshots, Sara messaged me saying I broke girl code and shouldn’t have mentioned Angie at all. Then she suddenly brought up Derek, saying I tried to break them up, which isn’t true. I haven’t spoken on their relationship in months. I never told her to leave him or tried to interfere. It felt like she heard a twisted version of what happened before talking to me.
Why I believe this Was Mostly Jakes Fault
This whole situation exploded because Jake escalated something small into something huge. He dragged Derek into it, twisted my words, threatened screenshots, and reached Sara before I could explain anything. He made everything worse instead of trying to understand.
I don’t dislike Derek “for nothing.” Before all of this, Derek treated me in ways that made me extremely uncomfortable. His behavior toward me switched suddenly, and he went from friendly to rude the moment I didn’t respond the way he wanted. That’s why I wasn’t exactly sad about the idea of him moving. I had real reasons, and Jake completely dismissed them.
So honestly, AITAH for getting upset and mentioning something small that somehow became this huge situation?

Use names
This is so immature and dumb that my brain turned off partway through. Couldn’t even finish the story. People engaging in or even caring about this kind of behavior are usually very young and definitely exhausting to deal with. Get new friends or better yet, work on yourself so that u can associate with higher quality people. You are stressed over people not worth anyone’s time or effort. That reflects on ur self worth. Fix ur self esteem and move on to better things.
