WIBTAH if I dropped out of my friends wedding as a bridesmaid?

My friend’s wedding is this May, one month before my due date. We’re starting talks about the dresses, hair and make up and activities but honestly it’s a lot of extra things to plan and pay for at the moment. I have a 15 month old son and I’m 5 months pregnant and exhausted!!! I can’t even think about being in a bridal party. Not only is it time consuming but there’s also the money portion, my partner and I have things we need to buy for the new baby so spending money on a wedding just isn’t within my budget.

I’ve already dropped out of the bachelorette party as I’ll be further along and can’t imagine traveling and partying with a bunch of drunk women lol.

WIBTAH if I told my friend I’d still attend her wedding but as a guest with less commitment?

  1. NTA, and it’s best to drop out now rather than two weeks before the wedding. Your friend should understand.

      1. If she really is your friend then she will understand. Just explain to her that you didn’t realize that your second pregnancy would be so tiring. I mean it’s hard enough chasing after a toddler even when you’re not pregnant.

  2. Sis, you’re growing a human and chasing a 15-month-old. That’s already two full-time jobs. Bridesmaid is basically unpaid internship with glitter. Go as a guest, eat cake, waddle home. End of story.

Be honest and say you don’t have budget nor energy for the preparations with the dress, hair, etc. with the baby on the way. Say you would love to attend the wedding as a regular guest if she would be so kind.

If she is a good friend she will understand.

  4. NTA. I was a bridesmaid for a good friend. She’s asked 2 of us but the other girl was pregnant. She said no to being a bridesmaid but still came to dress fittings & joined in wedding events as much as she could when she felt able to. Easy, no fuss, no drama.

    1. She’s been planning her wedding for what feels like years now, I had agreed when my first baby was a month old! I was so looking forward to it before but I’ve developed back and hip pain going into my 5th month. I can barely walk and barely have the energy to function lol. I am planning on attending the bridal shower though.

  5. NTA – As others have said though you should tell her as soon as possible so she has time to get someone else.
