AITA for standing in an empty parking spot to save it… and then refusing to move when a guy tried to pull in?

My friend and I were driving around a packed shopping center and when we finally saw someone pulling out, she jumped out of the car to stand in the spot while I looped back around. A guy in a truck tried to pull in anyway and literally inched his bumper toward her, telling her “you can’t save spots, you’re not a car.” I pulled up right then and told him we were taking it, and he called us entitled before peeling off dramatically. My friends are now arguing that “human placeholders” are illegal, but my friend insists we were technically there first. AITA?

  1. This is a very sad hill to die on.

YTA. And in the US what you did is illegal. The parking spot is (presumably) public property until a vehicle occupies it, NOT a human.

ETA: seriously? In the judgment bot you put “some people see as unfair and against parking etiquette.” Laughable. I think you need to learn the difference between etiquette and rules, and also do a simple Google search on your actions. Reddit should not have been necessary for judgment on this issue…

  2. YTA, you can’t do that. You were not in the spot first, the guy in the truck was. Next time park a little farther away and walk. Trust me, it’s take a few extra seconds to walk and not worth the hassle of driving around and around.
