AITA for giving my sister my honest option about what she wants to name her baby?

I’m going to attempt to make a long story short. My (28f) sister (24f) is expecting a baby boy in December. I’m so excited to be an aunt. We’ve always been close.

But the baby is almost here, and her and her husband have been keeping the baby’s name hidden the whole time. They say “oh i don’t know yet” but I figured they just want to not tell anybody.

Our grandparents keep asking her what the name is going to be. And one day we all went out to lunch, she asked again. This time she told us.

“His name is going to be August”

I almost spit out my drink. August born in December? A month name? My grandma and I both thought the same thing. We would never name our children that.

I asked her at the table “are you sure you want to give him a name people will tease him for”

I know kids can be relentless. And I was just thinking for the child’s future. But my sister seemed deeply saddened by what I said. And has distanced herself from me for the past two weeks.

Am I horrible for what I did? Or just an honest sister.

  1. YTA – Oh look, another person going “I’m just hOnEsT” to cover up being an asshole.

Also, August is a perfectly normal name.
