AITAH for stealing her thunder?

My sister (f30) is going on a winter sports vacation in a month, which is unusual for our family since we’re more “sun and beach” people. Earlier that day, she told me (f33) and our other sister that she planned to tell the whole family about this trip when everyone came over that evening.

During dinner, a few of us were talking about goals for next year, including taking more trips. It felt like the perfect moment for her to share her news, so I said something like, “My sister actually has a special vacation planned,” and looked at her so she could take over.

Instead, she went quiet and looked upset. My niece then asked her directly if she had planned a vacation, and after that my sister talked about it and the vibe went back to normal.

Later, she told me she didn’t appreciate me mentioning her vacation at all. She felt like I took away her choice to share it, even though she originally told me she wanted to tell everyone. Apparently, she’d changed her mind but hadn’t told me. I got mad because my intention felt pure but she interpreted as something malicious.

AITA for trying to give her space to talk about it? I feel like this is childless, petty and completely blown out of proportion.

    1. I feel like i did let her tell people, I would never tell them about what kind of vacation etc. It was merely so she would get the chance to talk about it.

      1. No you brought it up.

        >My sister actually has a special vacation planned,”

If she wanted to bring it up, she had the opportunity to herself.

  1. YTA, that’s just not how these things are done. You don’t announce someone else’s news. Your intentions may have been good but you still misstepped pretty badly and your sister is owed an apology.

  2. This is so odd. Why is a vacation a big family announcement? And why is it uncomfortable to just so, “oh yeah I changed my mind. I’m not doing that.”

    1. Thank you!!! That’s my whole thing .. this is not a big deal. Sure it’s fun and a unique vacation, but chill it’s just a vacation. It’s not like a wedding or pregnancy announcement

  3. What am I reading here? Wah wah wah.. you broke the story on my vacation and now I wanted to announce my vacation and you stole my announcement and wah wah wah.

    Really? Seriously?
