As the title says, I need to evict someone from the house I live in.
For background, I live in Oranmore, Ireland. Due to the housing crisis here I share a house with 16 people, our rent is paid in cash so it requires a "building manager" for lack of a better term. I’ve recently taken over that role, and there’s a housemate who has been causing problems for quite some time. She’s directly been the reason for 2 housemates moving out, and has fallen out with a large number of the rest of the people living here. I’ve received countless messages about her and her behaviour, including a conversation with the landlord regarding her. I was informed that he instructed the previous ‘building manager’ to give her 30 days notice that she has to leave.
The situation I’m in means that I am now the one expected to give her the notice. One of the many reasons people have complained about her, is that she smokes inside the common areas of the house including her bedroom which she shares with 2 others who don’t smoke. My difficulty here is that I also smoke, and have a private room so I will smoke out my window at night. For the many people who will say that it’s the landlord’s responsibility to evict her, I am anxious that she will then turn around and say that I also smoke in my room and therefore I’ll also be evicted.
This is all to say, I don’t think I have a choice but to be the one to evict this girl, and I have never done that before. I’m 25, I’ve saved a life, fired 4 people and have managed 2 businesses. I’m not afraid of confrontation or difficult situations but I am really feeling terrible about making someone leave their home, especially 3 weeks from Christmas.

Shit man that’s a rough situation, I’m sorry you have to deal with that. Especially so close to the holidays. I’m from the u.s. so shit prob works different here. In the u.s. there is a legal process you have to follow to evict someone. I’m sorry I’m not more of a help.

you should have a police officer there to witness when you tell her. And also to take care of any conflict that may arise. In the United States, you have to give 30 days notice of eviction Is that true where you are?.

My question is what is stopping you from smoking some where else? You could just stop smoking in your room long enough to evict her then start up again. You wouldn’t have to quit smoking in your room forever just long enough to where even if she tried to take you with her you could just deny it. Sounds easier than being miserable with a shitty housemate.
Post in Homeowners sub. I don’t think a guy could necessarily tell you more than anyone else, especially about Ireland.
1. Stop smoking where you break the rules.
2. Instead of a notice, give her a final warning as a christmas present.
3. Makw sure you do everything correct, so you do not have extra trouble. I do not know how the laws are in Ireland.
