Hello, I 29 f have a brother 23 m who recently joined the police academy because he got taunted by our biological father that he would amount to nothing because he dropped out of college. Twice.
We have a disabled mom i care for 24/7. She has been on dialysis for the past 2 and a half years and is now unable to walk or stand up straight which has gotten worse overtime and we will soon revisit our neurologist. Medical care is out of pocket in our country and her money is under 100% control of our biological father who is often emotionally and financially abusive and a diagnosed narcissist but they remain married. Last month he also got diagnosed with End stage renal disease and will be required to dialyze twice or thrice a week with in the coming few weeks.
Now since my little bro joined the police academy 2 months back he has been quiet, since last friday however he keeps calling and asking for a lot of money to be sent to his Sargent’s bank account which he provided, knowing we are in a ditch ourselves. We do send him pocket money now and then only to his bank account. He keeps saying he was a victim of medical negligence, poor handling, lack of sleep and clean water, and inability to eat the food the academy provides. He asked for 150k, equivalent to 1000 usd to be sent to his trainer immediately. I don’t have the money, mom is sick, his biological father is rejoicing in his misery. In a corruption ridden country with civil unrest this does not surprise me.
I did send 5k to his trainer as a Christmas present but refuse to participate in any coercion furthermore.
I said no and blocked him when he asked me to take what little he had out of his savings account and send it to that man.
I empathize with his pain but i sense i have not been looped into the whole picture… so, am i the asshole for refusing to help my little brother 😭

This is very confusing. Your brother was diagnosed with end-stage renal problems and the police academy still accepted him? Or is it the bio dad who has the kidney problems?
Why would you send a Police Academy teacher $5,000 as a Christmas gift? That doesn’t make any sense either.
In either case, you can’t send money you don’t have.
