I was rear-ended at a red light a few weeks ago. The damage to my car wasn’t huge, mostly cosmetic, and it was clearly his fault. We pulled over, exchanged info, and talked it out.
He asked if we could avoid insurance and said he’d pay me cash. I agreed, since it didn’t seem worth the hassle. We agreed on 200 euros, and he said he’d pay me the next day.
The next day, I called him about it and he suddenly changed his tone. He said we “should’ve handled it yesterday” and that since we didn’t, he didn’t want to pay anymore. He basically acted like the deal was off and told me to move on.
At that point, I filed a police report and provided all the details of the accident. Because of that, his license ended up being suspended.
Now he’s furious and says I completely screwed him over and made things way worse than they needed to be. He keeps saying it was a small accident and that I could’ve just let it go instead of involving the police.
.
AITA?
NTA, idiot got what he asked for.
Lol… NTA. He’s basically telling you you should have made sure there were absolutely no repercussions of him even after he gave a big ‘fuck you’ to the very reasonable agreement you made. Got what he deserved.
NTA. He got what he deserved. If you have insurance, go through your insurance to get to his insurance, including any deductible.
NTA – he agreed to settle in cash, then tried to give you the slip. If he didn’t want you to go through the proper channels, all he had to do was stick to plan A!
NTA. He broke the deal. If his license got suspended he presumably has other violations on his record and is a danger to others.
Two words
Fuck him
NTA
NTA.
He brought this on himself, not your fault nor is it your problem.
NTA- I don’t know how it all works in Europe, but in the US just let insurance handle it. Don’t ever just try to help somebody out in this situation. Car repairs are expensive as hell and they probably won’t give you enough money to cover it.
Not your fault, NTA- tell him if he had kept his side of the deal, there would have been no need for a police report, but because he could not be an adult he had to be treated like a child.
NTA. You gave them an opportunity and they blew it.
NTA sounds like he thought you couldn’t file a police report after the fact so he deliberately put you off one day and then backed out when he thought he’d get away with it. If his license is suspended then it’s obviously not his first or second offense and it’s safer for everyone if he’s not driving.
NTA.
That guy screwed himself over.
NTA. I was backed into while I was in a fast food line. Police were called and report filed. It was after this that we then decided to figure it out via cash. So I don’t see any issue w reporting it to the police bc imo it should’ve been anyways but idk if there’s a difference in countries wrt stuff like this
He tried to screw you and he’s upset because it backfired.
