AITA for wanting to play video games without starting from scratch with my friends

I play minecraft and terraria fairly often with my friend and my boyfriend. They both enjoy starting from scratch all the time and working in survival, but that’s not how I like to play. I don’t like perishing all the time and risking it all in caves. I’ve played a few times in survival with them, but now that some of my characters are equipped with stuff, I want to stay in creative or keep my stuff. I still want to play with them though, because I have a lot of fun playing the 3 of us, but they don’t want to play unless it’s A) survival and B) I have no advantage, even though I promised not to mess with them or get in their way.

  1. NAH you each have your own type of play, you could create a creative space with your play style that they can join but they should also be allowed to play survival and if you join them then it’s with their play style.

    1. I think that’s a good idea. If OP wants their own world with everything then the other guys can join and have everything too, but OP should also at least try playing the other guys’ style of starting from scratch on their worlds. Why not try both!

      1. I don’t know. Both were posted within 30 mins. of each other. 1 was a new account. Maybe same person asking same ? but from both sides.

  2. make a small server and use plugins. or turn on keep inventory (is that a vanilla feature LOL)

i haven’t played minecraft in a few years

People have conflicting ways they like to go about games sometimes. 🤷 My family and I all play video games, but hardly ever play together because of the huge differences in playstyles.

    Few different options:

    1. Try and reach a compromise of you all having a base together, with you doing the less dangerous stuff and they can go out and mine/hunt monsters all they want. You’ll be relatively safe and still be playing and hanging out with them.

    2. Have one world in each game where you strictly play the way they want and one where it’s the same for how you want.

    3. Accept that maybe these games are fun and you all like them but your playstyles are too different and find another game to play together. (If you go this route and still want to play with others on mc/terraria I recommend finding a server to join!)

Just as a little aside I recommend vintage story to your friend and boyfriend and hytale to all of you. I loved minecraft for years, but playing these two games has completely replaced it for me. Vintage story is more survival and exploration focused. It’s a bit harder than minecraft with more moving parts but stuff feels far more rewarding because of that. With Hytale it’s more magicy and closer to mc. Also in hytale the trees fall if you break the bottom block and you can MANTLE! It’s so wonderful lol

You can still create a new character or all start on a new server so that you start from scratch with them but go back to your leveled up characters in solo.

If this doesn’t work for you, then maybe THEY should just accept you play w your OP characters and chill out lol It’s coop for crying out loud.

  5. I’m like you. I’m not a huge fan of dying or exploring caves in Minecraft, so i just…don’t. I build mine shafts from scratch, I don’t go out at night, and I never go into the nether.

Now, this is where I really enjoy playing with others. *They* can do all that scary frustrating stuff, while I hang back at the base and farm and mine to my heart’s content. They don’t worry about food, I don’t worry about materials, and it’s great for everyone.

Maybe that’s how you can go about it with them? NAH, it’s just different play styles, but that’s what’s fun about Minecraft. Lots of folks can play lots of ways without an issue. Sounds like they want to play against each other? But maybe there’s a way to make it work.

  6. Maybe you should try giving them a chance and play from scratch! It might be fun, you never know. To be honest, it sounds like you’re afraid you may not be good enough. Why don’t you give it a go?
