So my little cousins were over today, and they were pretty bored and whining that there was nothing to do. (To be fair, my house is pretty boring).
My dog Maggie came into the room, and since my cousins love her I decided to play a funny prank on them. I brought Maggie to my room and drew two eyebrows on her with lipstick. Then I brought her back downstairs.
One of my cousins thought it was funny, but the other one started crying. My aunt told me it’s bad to put makeup on a dog, and got frustrated that my cousin was crying since she finally got him to be in a better mood. (He’s little and fussy).
Then she made me wipe the lipstick off of my dog so she doesn’t get sick. My dad also said it can irritate her skin if I put lipstick on her eyebrows and since it made cousin cry to wipe it off.
Am I the asshole in this situation? Thought it’d make my cousins laugh but instead one of them cried and my aunt and father told me it’s bad for the dog.
I don’t want my dog to get sick or something just because I thought she looked funny with eyebrows. Not sure if the lipstick I used was safe for a dog’s skin or not.
NTA- everyone voting YTA is being ridiculous. It’s lipstick, it’s literally a skin safe edible product that was on your dog’s fur for a couple minutes. It’s slightly juvenile but honestly pretty harmless.
Yeah people are exaggerating and got no idea what their talking about lol. Small amount of lipstick on the dogs fur isn’t going to do any harm
NTA. Lipstick is nontoxic to dogs and only causes issues if they eat it.
Everybody saying yta is being ridiculous and dramatic.
Ex-vet tech here, there is NO health concern at all in putting lipstick over the fur for a minute. NTA. People saying that it could have harmed the dog are either confusing the danger with animal testing or pets consuming the makeup. There is no physical way for the lipstick to get in to the dogs system if applied overtop of the fur.
NAH you sound like you’re just a teenager who did something silly without really thinking about it. I work with dogs, and while yes you really shouldn’t be putting lipstick on them, it doesn’t make you abusive or an asshole to do so. Just immature and irresponsible.
Your aunt and dad are right in that your actions could have the consequences of teaching your younger cousins that it’s okay to use makeup on animals, and that’s a dangerous precedent to set.
Don’t beat yourself up over this. It was an innocent mistake that literally anyone could make. Just think of it as a learning opportunity.
NTA. And there’s sure a lot of whiny babies on this thread that would apparently hate to see me kiss my dog on the forehead and leave kissy marks because it’s hella cute.
NTA but listen …animals are not used in the testing of most cosmetics but they are safe for humans. You didn’t damage the dog. Use makeup remover. The kid was surprised at the change in the dog. Kids cry when their dads shave off their beard. Funny story. Tell it to the fussy one when they grow up. This is not traumatizing.
NTA. They sound like worrywarts.
nta. i’m not sure why the comment are comparing this to actual animal testing. animal testing is when they are putting a product on shaved animal skin, the eyes, and/or making them ingest it. putting lipstick, which may end up ingested by humans or just on human lips in general, on an animal is a little odd but not as dangerous as the comments are making it out to be.
Also, the animal testing happens *before the product is approved for human use*. A lipstick that is fine for human use isn’t going to magically kill your dog.
NTA your dog is fine…. people
saying yta are dramatic asf
NTA These commenters are being DRAMATIC. It is not the end of the line for this dog. That tail lives to wag another day. You did something silly, yes. Doesn’t necessarily make you an AH. How old are you? I honestly didn’t know that the products could irritate the dog. People are acting like you gave it chocolate or something. You learned your lesson. Give the dog some belly rubs from me. Thank you.
yeah, genuinely scared me for α minute 😭 i looked more into it like people suggested, my dog isn’t going to die and likely won’t have any sort of lasting harm (aside from probably wondering why me and my cousin were laughing when she entered the room) obviously i’m not going to put lipstick on her eyes again but the comments made me think she was gonna have an allergic reaction and die from it 🥲 also I don’t really wanna give my exact age but I am in high school lol
Yeah. You’re a kid. Forget these folks. 😂
