AITA because I don’t want to stop donating my plasma?

So I’m writing this here because I don’t really know where else I should put it so I’m doing it here.
Since 2021 I’ve been donating my plasma for money,
So in that year me and my family were short on money and was living in a hotel room, it was me, my mom, my brother and my two grandparents and cousin. It was not an ideal living situation, so one day my cousin gets the idea to donate our plasma for money, he said we can both make $500 in a month if we did, which doesn’t seem like a lot for donating for a whole month but for us it was a lot, so my cousin and I started and got through the month but he stopped and I didn’t because I still needed the money, at the time I really didn’t know how to make money any other way and I tried applying for a job multiple times but I couldn’t even get a interview. over time I eventually started making money by working with my brother doing Body work on cars, but I still donate every week, despite the approval of my family who tells me I should stop and are worried that I may get sick from doing it and they don’t want to take me there to do it, it takes about a hour to get through sometimes longer but I always tell say to whoever takes me there you don’t have to wait around and I’ll get Uber or a Lyft back and the days I go are always days where no one is doing anything but even if they are busy I find my own way to get there without asking for a ride, I don’t drive myself which is something I’m working on so I can’t avoid anyone taking me and waiting but they still tell me I should stop going all together, I did take a 8 month break when I got a tattoo but went to donating after that time, I really didn’t plan on doing for this long but I just didn’t stop and I really don’t see a issue with it. I’m making extra money and on the app where I make appointments it tells me how many people are helped with my plasma which is nice knowing but the truth is I’m doing for the money, I make $130 a week on top of the money I make doing body work, which isn’t really a lot dependent on the day and how much we get paid.
Am I the asshole here or should I just stop?

  1. NTA. I’m glad that you’re doing it! I’m ineligible to donate myself and am disappointed that I can’t help people in that way (or make a little extra money)!

  2. NTA your body, your choice. But was the tattoo worth it? the price for it and the time and loss of income due to it?

    1. This is YTA. I get wanting to own something that no one can ever take away from you/lose due to poverty, but ffs 🤦‍♀️ in the tattoos. The only thing more irresponsible when poor is getting a large dog.

    2. It was during October on Friday the 13th a tattoo shop was doing a deal, $13 dollars for palm size tattoos. I got six for $80 bucks, they have meaning to me except one which I got because I thought it was cool, at that time I had a decent amount of money saved so I figured why not, I would say it was worth it.

  3. Finally – someone making a bit of money from a renewable resource.

But seriously, make sure you are not harming your health. You may need to take on an iron-rich diet to stay healthy, or you might be jeopardizing the usefulness of a vein or two that may be useful if you are in need of medical assistance down the road, but these are questions for your physician. I worry that you live somewhere that the cost of seeking medical advice and treatment might be prohibitive (hence the market for the blood of our young).

NTA. You get to choose what to do with your blood (at least while it is inside you).

  4. NTA. Strictly answering your question, no, you are not the asshole. It’s your body and you can do whatever you want. Plasma donation sites typically have very strict rules and regulations to ensure their donors are healthy because they want you to be able to continue to return.

On the other hand, you can’t claim lack of funds when you have the money for a tattoo .

    1. The time I got a tattoo was about 4 years Into donating and my family and I had an actual home and was well out of the previous living situation, I also had a decent amount of money saved up and the tattoo shop was doing a deal for Friday the 13th, $13 for small tattoos. I got six for $80.

  5. NTA

I think there’s just a stigma around selling plasma, because a lot of homeless people and drug addicts use it to get quick money. But there’s nothing inherently wrong with selling plasma.

  6. They only let you donate healthy amounts

Thank you for your donations (i am not in your country probably but i like that you do)
