Idk how to start this but we’re in med school I’ve known him since our first year in med school, he knows I’m gay and when I ask him "do you think it’s wrong?" He says "yes" with no hesitation but he always respects me and even buys me food sometimes
It all started when we were in the lab for something about biochemistry and we started joking about evolution, he was sitting alone reading on his kindle when I decided to ask him out of curiosity "why don’t you join us?" He said "I’m not really interested in that subject" and when I asked him why he said he doesn’t believe in evolution
I was shocked how can someone who literally gets 3.9gpa was so fucking ignorant so I decided to debate him and the first question he asked me was "where do you get knowledge from?" and I couldn’t answer so I told him maybe we should debate later
Next week we got into a debate again this time he asked me to go to a cafe with him and talk so we did it and we started talking he wasn’t rude and he didn’t mock me the whole debate but I couldn’t answer anything and was overwhelmed so I started crying
After a few days I met him in college and he was surprisingly okay with talking again he wasn’t mad or anything later on that day I joked about him being a terrorist which almost got him into a trouble with the staff and being a creeper(from minecraft) cause he’s a muslim and kept doing that for about two weeks and he has been avoiding me since then
I tried to tell the professor that he rejects evolution and he just said "so I should punish him cause he doesn’t believe in what you want him to believe?" I said "no for not believing in a fact" he said "just cause he doesn’t believe in a fact doesn’t mean he should be punished you can say "the world doesn’t exist this is all delusions" and you won’t be punished, if you don’t like him don’t talk to him" and then I left how is that fucking allowed to reject a scientific fact while you’re in med school?

B) You are the asshole to yourself for caring so much honestly. People will believe what they want to believe. All you are doing is causing drama when trying to debate him, especially when it seems his views do not affect you in any way. Spoiler, he’s not going to change his views.

YTA homie. If he wants to believe in religion and intelligent design that’s on him. None of that impacts his ability to learn, answer questions, be a doctor, lawyer, whatever. You had fair debates and couldn’t even provide an accurate answer to back up
Your beliefs other than its ’scientific fact’. He is at least able to articulate his beliefs and why he believes what he does. You stated you were unable to even articulate it in a friendly debate 1 on 1 and started crying. So from a purely academic perspective, what he believes holds more weight than what you do if you can’t back it up since what you are saying is basically blind faith no matter how right or wrong you may be on the topic.

You didn’t lose him because of the debate about evolution. You lost him because you spent two weeks calling him a terrorist and a creeper. Disagreeing about science is one thing, but making jokes about someone’s religion like that is going to make anyone avoid you.
YTA. Your professor is right. I dont agree in his view on homosexuality. But as log as the guy is respektfull, whats the issue? People have different values, even bigoted. But if they keep this values to themselves. Whats the issue?
