AITA for confronting someone in my street for parking his bashed up car outside my house for 5 weeks straight

So for the last 5 weeks I’ve had a car parked on the neighbor strip directly outside my house. This car has rusted up rims, is bashed up on the side and now after being left under a tree for so long is covered in bird poo. Originally, I just left it firstly because I didn’t know whos car it was and secondly I thought someone might just be visiting for a couple of weeks. On week 3 I began to think it was stolen or abandoned and went to the neighbors surrounding the car if it was theirs, but it was not anyone directly surrounding me. A couple of weeks later one of my neighbors let me know that it belonged to the house 3 doors down.

When I went down to the house, I noticed that they had a driveway that fit roughly 4 cars, and covered 2 easily. I politely asked them if they would move the car and they stated it’s public property and refused to. At this point I got angry and said "can you move that piece of junk off, the side strip. It’s covered in bird shit and is rusting". and this point he closed the door in my face.

AITA, like really, you park an absolute lemon outside my house for over a month and refuse to move it when I ask

  1. ESH. Street parking is not disallowed but does the municipality where you live have an abandoned vehicle bylaw? Bylaw enforcement can ticket and tow in a lot of places.

EDIT some municipalities have a bylaw that allows non-running vehicles to be towed too.

  2. Was it parked in your driveway or designated space? Do you own the street? Was it violating a parking code? No? YTA.

  3. Call the non emergency police line and report that it’s been there without moving for however long. They’ll mark it and ticket it when they can.

  4. Now the problem is that if you call code enforcement or a tow truck or anyone, those neighbors will know it was you. Judging from their attitude, they wouldn’t hesitate to make life miserable for you.

  5. Is he moving it every so often or is it parked for weeks on end? If it’s the latter, it can be called in as an abandonned vehicle or one that is violation of parking laws. If he’s moving it and parks in front of your house instead of his own, there’s not likely to be much you can do about it since it’s on a city street unless he parks for longer than the law allows.

You should be able to call in to your city officials and get it towed. In my town, you can call after 5 days.
