I’m moving out of a house I’m not on the lease for but am still finding a replacement, to be helpful to the people still living there and they also told me I have to find someone. I was going to do room viewings so texted my roommates that I’m having a viewing the next Saturday at 12. My one roommate ripped me apart for not asking her schedule and providing the name of the person coming. I was never just going to tell someone to move in, I just wanted to get started on the viewings and I assumed I could do that on my own.
Pretty straight forwards, AITA
Info: how many roommates do you have, and why do you need to find anyone if you’re not even on the lease?
I have four roommates, the essentially told me I had to find someone and intimidated me over the issue
You’re not on the lease. Legally, there is not much if anything they can do other than make vague threats. If you are not on the lease, my guess is this new person will not be on the lease, which makes them a “long term guest” in the eyes of the landlord, and could be grounds for eviction for the rest of the roommates.
If you have a new place to go already, just pack up and move out. No need to cater to these people. NTA.
NTA, your roommates clearly are. If you are not on the lease, it is not your responsibility to find anyone, and trying to force you to do it then blowing up at you when you’re being helpful is absolutely ridiculous.
I’d advise you to use whoever blew up at you to stop looking. “Hey, I’m trying to help you guys find a replacement, and found someone who just wants to look at the place on Saturday. Since X mentioned that’s a problem for them, I’ll be cancelling this and any future viewings.” They can figure it out themselves and know exactly who to blame that isn’t you.
You’re not on the lease so it’s actually generous of you to help find a replacement. You have no legal obligation to do so. Roomie should be appreciative of your effort.
You don’t owe them anything. Just move out and leave to them the task of finding another roommate.
NTA – They told you that you had to find someone and then complained about how you did it.
You’re doing them a favor. Their reaction was way bigger than the situation
F them. You ain’t on the lease. Let them worry about finding a new roommate.
NTA
You’re not even on the lease so why do you need to find a new roommate for them? It should be down to them, or whoever is actually on the lease.
They told you to find someone, then got mad when you… started finding someone. Make it make sense
NTA – You gave them a heads up. No need to go out of your way to be nice going forward; let them find a replacement, since you’re not on the lease.
lol. If you are not in the lease, you don’t *have* to do anything. If that’s the attitude you get for trying to help, F it. NTA.
They can’t tell you to handle the viewings then freak out the second you… handle a viewing. That’s just roommate drama for sport
