I did exactly what it says in the title. I found someone’s card on my way to the subway on my commute home. I walked by, turned around, and grabbed it, hoping to find a Transit Cop to hand it off to. I couldn’t find one, so I tossed it in a trash can so that no one with bad intentions could find it. I feel a bit bad about not being able to handing it off, but I couldn’t just let it sit there and risk someone bad grabbing it.
NTA I wouldn’t trust that number even if you got it back to me. They probably had it deactivated the minute they realized it. You prevented someone using it
YTA. That is not how you handle that situation. Throwing it in the trash does not make it safe.
Who’s going to be searching through rubbish thinking
“Hmm where’s that credit card I dropped”?
Probably a homeless person or an addict. Not necessarily looking for but for something
I see homeless people going through the trash all of the time. (Probably a mailbox would have beern a better option)
Nobody. A rando who saw you drop someone else’s card in the garbage will, though
Absolutely NTA.
I once used an ATM after someone else who left their card behind. I found them on Facebook, sent them a message, we met up, and gave the gentleman his card. He hadn’t realized he left it behind and was on his way out of town with his family. Needless to say, he was beyond grateful.
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
