So me and my girlfriend have been together for about three years now. She gets really upset when I use the bathroom and I forget to put the toilet seat down for her. I understand her frustration because sometimes she goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night and she’s not fully awake and just needs to sit down without thinking and go to the bathroom.
However, sometimes it’s just not on the top of my mind and I forget. It’s not that I’m trying to intentionally disrespect her, but when I’m taking a piss, I’m not always thinking about my girlfriend.
I grew up in a house with three brothers and we just never really cared about that, or thought of it because it didn’t really affect us all that much. It’s a long time habit that’s taking some time for me to adjust to.

I’d be pissed if I ever fell into the toilet because the males in my house didn’t care enough to put the seat down. Fortunately, I married a man who is considerate of the women in the house. In 9 years together, and married for almost 7, I can count on one hand the number of times my husband has left the toilet seat up.
Do better or find a gf who enjoys a surprise butt bath at 2 am.

YTA. It’s so easy to just put the seat down, and honestly you should be fully closing the lid when you flush anyways as a basic hygiene thing. Do you know how much nasty piss and shit water gets flung into the air when you flush?
YTA. I also grew up with three brothers. I put the seat AND LID down before I flush, because anything else is disgusting. And thinking about others in everything is part of being in a relationship. Grow up.
