This story starts when I (F21) was invited to the bar by my sister (F25).
My sister, we’ll call her Kendall, was going out to the bar with her group of friends when she invited me to join them. We got picked up by the designated driver and bar-hopped downtown.
During the night, her friend (M27) was casually hitting on me. At one point during the night, my sister and her husband pulled me aside, saying I needed to be mindful of who I was dating. Their friend, we’ll call him Ted, wasn’t the best in a relationship. I was well-aware of his poor behavior in past relationships and complete lack of loyalty.
However, I made it clear that neither of us wanted a relationship. I thought he was attractive, he thought I was attractive, and we were both adults. There was no problem if we wanted to have a fling.
My sister was still weird about it, which I assumed was because I’m her younger sister, but her husband agreed with me.
Long story short, we started hanging out. It was never serious, which we both wanted. He was moving away for work in August, and I was going back to campus.
My sister had both of our locations, and she noticed that we were together at his apartment. She blew up at me and sent me a bunch of texts saying I betrayed her, I wasn’t her sister anymore, and I went behind her back. Then, her husband began texting me, saying what I did was out of line. Neither of them texted their friend about it. Only me.
I want to be clear that I never said I wouldn’t hang out with him. I told both of them that.
My sister didn’t talk to me for two months after that. It’s been a few months since it happened, and we’re on decent terms again, but I’ve always wondered if I was the asshole in this situation.
