I am a big anxious over thinker , so i think i may have overreacted to the massage resort asking me to move up my appointment.
On Tuesday my lower back started to hurt really bad and I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress lately so I decided to schedule an appointment for a massage. I figured it would be sometime next week but they had an appointment online available for Friday at 5pm so I thought perfect! I scheduled the appointment and went about my day. Later in the afternoon they texted me asking if I could move my appointment to 3:30, and I said I couldn’t but I could change it to a different day if the massage therapist needed me to reschedule. They said no need and instead asked if I could move to 4:30 so I through okay I could leave work early. That was the end of the conversation so i thought everything was okay.
Today they texted me asking again if I could move my appointment up to 3:30. This is when I think I overreacted this. I don’t want to go to the appointment now since I feel like the massage therapist has something to do at the time of my current appointment since they keep pushing me to change it. I know if i go I will feel anxious during the whole appointment thinking the therapist feels I am stopping them from doing something, so I requested to cancel and reschedule for a completely different day. Especially since I will be paying $180 plus tip/tax. I feel like I may have been a little mean in the response.
NTA they suggested the time. You accepted. They moved it. You made it work. They played the same game again. Nope. You owe them nothing.
NTA you booked it for a specific time to fit in with your schedule, they kept trying to change it to where it would no longer fit, its their loss, if they don’t want to do 5pm appointments, they shouldn’t be available to book
Oh wow. That would be very frustrating. I can see telling them never mind. NTA.
NTA. Of course not.
The point about booking appointments is that the agreed time is convenient for both parts.
If the previously open time slot is suddenly not convenient for them anymore, that’s in no way your fault. They asked if possible to move up, one “no” should suffice. Insisting on it was rude of them.
You actually were comprehensive by requesting appointment in another day. Most people, especially the ones in pain, would just move their business to a different place altogether.
Thanks! I am so glad I didn’t read this wrong! I don’t think i’ll actually go back, it feels way too expensive for the actually service I’m getting.
NTA. They all wanted to leave early on a Friday. If they didn’t want to stay that late then they shouldn’t have offered that time slot.
Yeah, I think it would’ve been better if they’d just asked me to reschedule for a different day the first time after I suggested it.
NTA I work in a doctor’s office and some times were get cancellations that leave a weird gap and usually will politely ask the last one if they can move up. If they can’t it’s usually no big deal. If they want to cancel of reschedule that’s cool too. Don’t stress about the second message it could of been on a sticky note and two different staff reached out to you both knowing it had been done yet. Better twice than missed.
Thanks for that perspective! I didn’t think of it this way.
I would love to leave people in their scheduled time. I have to stay my full day regardless. The doctor though will have me call to condense the schedule so he can leave early/come in late.
NTA. They get to change my appointment once. If they want to change it a second time, I’m not going, and I’m never coming back. Asking to change a second time means they want to work on someone else more than they want to work on you, even tho you already had that time booked.
I bet they didn’t want to wait around for a couple of hours for 5 pm so were trying to get you to move up so they could leave earlier.
ESH – I do think you overreacted a bit but they also crossed the line
Most massage therapists are paid by appointment – if they do t have an appointment booked they aren’t getting paid
There might have been 2 ppl handling appointments who double tagged you? It could be they had a cancellation or maybe bad weather heading you way and wanted to move up appointments
