Throwaway because my friends use Reddit.
I 24F went out for dinner with three friends I have known since school. I recently started a new job that I am actually really proud of, but it does not pay a lot yet.
One friend 25M kept making jokes all night about how I am basically working for free and asking if I needed him to cover my meal. I laughed the first couple of times but told him to drop it. He did not. He kept bringing it up every time money or the bill was mentioned.
After about the fifth joke I said I was heading off and left before dessert. I paid for my food and drinks first, so no one was stuck with my part of the bill.
Now the group chat is saying I overreacted and killed the vibe over jokes and that I should have just ignored it. I feel like I already tried to brush it off and then clearly asked him to stop.
Extra context, he does this a lot. He picks one thing about someone and turns it into a running joke all night.
AITA for leaving?
