AITA for leaving work early today?

I work for a daycare and since today is the day before thanksgiving half the school is empty. I work with two other teachers and our class was the only one with full attendance, the rest of the classes only had about 5 kids each. So admin went around and asked if anyone wanted to go home early. One coteacher, let’s call her cheryl said she wanted to stay while my other coteacher, Toni and I wanted to leave. Cheryl seemed like she was in a bad mood after this conversation. Honestly, Toni and I thought that they would not be able to send us home because our class was so full. However, they decided to send us home and give Cheryl a different teacher who also wanted to stay. Cheryl was even more irritated because now she would be alone with a random teacher. Toni decided she felt too bad and asked to stay to help Cheryl. I offered to let Toni go home and for me to stay instead but Toni insisted I go ahead and leave early. Now I just feel guilty. Cheryl was mad, Toni felt guilty enough to stay yet I still got to go home early?? AITAH in this situation?

  1. NTA. They were going to send someone home as your school is overstaffed. Asked for volunteers 1st. You are not in the wrong at all.

  2. NTA, Cheryl assumed that because she said she would stay, that her team would do the same and was disappointed that you wanted to leave. She did not honestly express her feelings, and that is on her. Happy Thanksgiving.

  3. I am so fed up with these adult children… NTA don’t even feel guilty. You are not responsible for cheryls emotions and she said she wanted to stay so unfortunately she has to suck it up

  4. NTA. If I get to go home early all they’re going to see is the smoke coming off of my shoes while I’m running out the door

  5. NTA this is presuming a lot of responsibility for another grown adults emotions. Cheryl is an adult, if she wanted to go home, she can use her words.

  6. NAH.

I assume you get paid by the hour. Cheryl wanted to be paid, but she didn’t want to have to do extra work or work with a random teacher. So she’s in a bad mood but it’s not your fault.

Toni made a different decision than you, but that doesn’t make you an AH.
