So my family has had a tradition for generations, at any family gatherings the children eat first, then the adults, this way the adults don’t eat huge portions early and so that the kids eat enough, he’ll my grandma had a cousin that jumped the line and had to eat last for a decade.
This thanksgiving my cousin (Lizzy brought her boyfriend Kevin (not real names) and as soon as the food was done he immediately made a beeline for the kitchen and I pulled him aside quickly and told him the rule and had him sit down until the kids got their food, I didn’t yell, I didn’t say anything out loud that would call attention, just a quick statement and I asked him to wait, a turned around to talk to my father and when I look back he’s cut in front of most of the kids piling food on his plate, so I waited until he finished making his plate, and I took it from him and put it in the microwave until everyone else got their food, then I let him get his plate out of the microwave and eat, and now he’s calling me an asshole.
for a little clarification,
1. This was not his first holiday with the family he has been with Lizzy for about 18 months so he saw how we do things
2. He wasn’t starving as he had already came from a smaller gathering with his mom and dad.
So AITA, I don’t think I am, but if I am I’d like to know why?
