AITA For not going into work when my boss knew about my hospital visit

My work is at a delivery company 24f and I’m the person you call when your delivery has issues however only if you’re at business.

My manager 36 M is very temperamental one minute joking next minute slamming doors, stomping around and calling us lazy. I infomed him in January of my hospital visit and he was perfectly fine with it however today the appointment day i said I wouldn’t be in for my evening shift (he has people in so that’s not the issue) he was getting annoyed at me not coming in.

My siblings need care around this time as well so hence one of the reasons I can’t come in my dad who drives me because I can’t (I’m disabled) has to give my brother medication at my appointment time so I’m getting dropped off, I could have probably done work for an hour but with how outdated and old the system us there’s no guarantees I’d be able to sign on without issues.

The problem as i mentioned is he is now upset of why I can’t come in after however I don’t know how long the appointment is with how long uk appointment times have been I said i wouldn’t be in. Now he wants to discuss this further but the problem is again I’ve had at most 1 day off for again an appointment he knew about. He’s also aware of that too.

  1. NTA. But depending on the size of your company you need to contact HR. You gave him plenty of notice that you were not going to be in. You’re allowed time off. If you’re THAT invaluable, find another job with a boss that’s not a temperamental child. I wouldn’t put up with that, but I don’t know how easy it would be for you to find another job with your disability.

The company recently celebrated 50 years they describe themselves as dpd but worse, I’ve tried using holiday time on a previous check up however he told me due to it being a health thing and if I give him enough notice its fine, he leave throughout for similar reasons and then decides to not come back in. Although I’m closer to the workplace than him I don’t see why he can fo what he wants.

      HR is essentially useless as well. I reported something to do with the depot team not doing their jobs making it harder for us and I got old off for bothering them.

    2. The thing is also I’ve only had 1 day off today would be the 2nd (holiday is excluded) so I don’t know why he’s freaking out.

  2. Just forward him his original OK that you have in writing (right?).

    My boss is moody like this too. It sucks because you have to force yourself to not care.
