AITA for not letting him win the tryouts?

I am a 1st year college student and there is a sports fest tryout for chess in school earlier.
I won the tryout against the favored 3rd year former winner.
I felt really bad because of his condition, he was carried by his mom to the venue because the only limb he has left is his arm…
I do feel bad, and I’ve been questioning myself for awhile now. Should I have let him win?

    1. Yes, it would’ve been incredibly disrespectful..
But before he left I noticed he looked a bit melancholic which made me feel like an *sshole.

        1. I suppose, I wouldn’t really feel this way to a regular person. Thank you very much for your insight on this. 🫂

          1. They’re just words. If you are afraid to say them, don’t use them at all. Use a different word, don’t censor yourself.

          2. Thank you, that’s a good comment that I will keep in my mind. I will not be censoring my words from now on.

  1. It’s chess? Then NTA. Physical disabilities should not impact the ability to play chess of all things (speaking broadly, of course!!).

  2. NTA No you should not have let him win. It would have been incredibly condescending. It’s fine to wonder but try not to second guess yourself.
