AITA for not respecting my fiancé’s position on LOTR casting?

I (43M) finally got my fiancé (39F) to watch Lord of the Rings with me. About halfway through, in the scene where Boromir speaks with Aragorn, she expressed some confusion, saying that it was hard to tell them apart, and felt like it was a poor casting choice. For context, Boromir is played by Sean Bean, and Aragorn is played by Vigo Mortensen. They both have goatees and long hair (of different colors). She also said that they have similar facial features (I disagree).

It may also be worth noting that we are both caucasian, since I know there is hard evidence that people are better at recognizing facial differences their own race.

We didn’t really get in a fight about this, but we discussed for a while, and neither of us changed our position at all. I still refuse to entertain that they look similar at all, and she is adamant that they do. So, neither of us are giving any validity to each other’s positions here, but AITA?

  1. I just started reading this sub today and I believe there is a critique/meta in this post intended to point out they simply had a normal conversation.

Am I getting the joke or just wrong.

Do people spell out little engagements and discussions like that on here a lot?

  2. YTA. LOL When I type Boromir into google, the second suggestion is “boromir and aragorn related” so given our own all seeing eye is ready to clear up confusion, gotta give you a “wrong” for the idea that you refuse to entertain that they look similar at all.

  3. NAH, there are no assholes here, just two people with different points of view. She might have some level of face blindness, though, because those two dudes do not look similar at all beyond being white with a similar haircut.

  4. It would be NAH because this isnt a big deal except you came to complain about it. YTA. stop being so sensitive about it

  5. NAH

People can disagree and it doesn’t matter on issues this small.

For what it’s worth, those two guys look nothing alike, everyone in this thread needs their eyes testing.

  6. This really shouldn’t be posted in Reddit. You need to get on the phone with Peter Jackson, and discuss it with him. The sooner the better!

  7. For starters nah, but I’ll admit when I first watched way back when I kept getting them mixed up too. I wouldn’t now but I can see the mistake. Wouldn’t say it was bad casting though, they both did excellent jobs.

  8. lol what. I love LOTR and yes they do look similar. Nothing wrong with that. Why are you both being assholes about this? You are entitled to your opinion and she is entitled to hers. Geez.
