I live with two roommates in an apartment. We split utilities 3 ways, but one roommate (Mike) keeps leaving lights/AC on 24/7, runs space heaters in his room even when it’s not that cold, and leaves his gaming setup on standby constantly.
Last bill was $280 way higher than normal. I checked the usage and it spiked during times he’s home alone. I asked him to pay his full third ($93) instead of the usual split, since his habits caused most of the jump. He said “it’s a shared apartment, we all use electricity” and refused.
I told him fine, then I’ll just pay my third and he can cover the rest with the other roommate. Now he’s pissed, saying I’m being cheap and making him look bad.
