I live in australia where in city’s busses are pretty fucking good but I’m a student and don’t have the money to pay every time I need a bus so I normally just walk onto busses nod to the bus driver and sit and most of the time it goes fine but today when I tried to do this the bus driver screamed at me and closed the doors so I couldn’t leave and demanded I pay. I literally didn’t have any way to pay so I told him I could just get off and call an uber. but he keeps the doors closed and traps me??? Since I’m under 18 and live technically outside of the major city I go to school in I have a bus card but it only works in a different state to the one I’m currently in. I try showing it to the bus driver and eventually he lets me get off (no thanks to the card). But now I’m traumatised and don’t want to go on another bus again.
TLDR: I didn’t pay for a bus and was almost kidnapped by the driver
Of course YTA. Buy a bus ticket. The driver should have just kicked you off, but you still need a ticket.
YTA
You’re stealing. Fare evasion is stealing. Pay up next time and move on.
YTA, just buy a bus ticket.
Is this even a serious question? YTA.
Public transport only works because people pay. Just because you’re skint doesn’t give you the right to just take what you want. Get a job and pay your way.
Jesus Christ yes YTA. Grow up.
YTA you are literally stealing.
YTA. And a thief. Why should everyone else have to subsidise you.
YTA, not paying is called stealing. If you can pay for an uber, you can pay for bus fare.
YTA. Get a bus pass for the place you are using the bus. If you can afford a random surprise uber ride you can save up for a bus pass.
if you can pay for ubers, you can tap your phone/card on the opal/go card/myki/smartrider/metrocard/tap and ride/greencard/myway reader (there are usually posters demonstrating this exactly, and idk what state/territory you’re in so i included them all). drivers can get written up or fired for taking on fare evaders if they’re caught, iirc. ESH – you for fare evading then proposing uber as an alternative when a bus fare is usually much cheaper, and the driver for trapping you on the bus and screaming at you.
YTA. I am not trying to degrade you as you are a child, but in what world do you live in where fare evasion is a good idea? Paying your fare ensures the driver gets paid and is seen as doing his job right, he should have called the cops and told your parents so be grateful he did not. And for heavens sake, get a bike😭
you’re traumatized? he “almost kidnapped” you??? jeez. not only are you an ah, you’re overdramatic and feel way too sorry for yourself
after you’ve consistently done wrong.
if you don’t want to go on a bus again, good. make space for people who actually pay for a ticket. YTA.
If you can fund an uber – even if it’s your parents paying – you can fund public transport. Pay your bus fare. Or walk. Being a student you get a concession fare anyway. You aren’t entitled to free travel. I’m also Australian. YTA.
So when you need food and you don’t have money, do you just walk into a store, grab some then nod to the cashier on your way out and expect there to be no consequences? That’s what you’re doing with bus fare. Getting places is essential. At least in the USA students get discounts. Or perhaps you could visit a food bank so that you can afford a bus pass. It can be rough dealing with a very limited budget, but relying on bus drivers to let it slide every time you ride the bus is not sustainable and is essentially theft. YTA
