Yeah so as you read the title my principal ran over a cat the other day with his car on accident and now the whole schools going crazy about it and when i was in my club chat talking about the cat i asked “why are yall stressing out over a cat” i mean from my perspective the cat is insignificant and i don’t see why anyone should go crazy over something this small, and after typing that i got absolutely flamed about how i “wanted to act tuff” or “bro got his hunter mind set” but i’m genuinely so confused how people can actually get so sad for these things.
I was pretty confused so i went to my best friend who i’ve never fought with since forever and he started talking about “fym its just a cat” so now im questioning myself because maybe its me thats being a heartless asshole about it or maybe everyone is just being sensitive
I would really appreciate some honest opinions and feel free to criticise me if you need too!!
Edit: I read the replies and maybe I’ve considered that its probably something mental because looking back i’ve never felt empathy for anything🤔
Most people care about other living things and don’t want them to be injured or die. YTA

Many people have pets themselves that they dearly love, and the idea of someone else’s pet getting killed hits close to home and upsets people. And even those who do not have pets, typically have a general sadness when something dies like that.
Just because YOU do not value something does not mean others don’t. And it doesn’t give you an excuse to be dismissive/a jerk about it.
YTA
While to you it was a cat, others saw as it was loved, had a home, people who saw it as family. It’s obvious you’ve never really had a pet
YTA big time. My cat is my whole world, I can’t possibly imagine being so callous to another living creature. This is horrible.
YTA
Ugh, of course YTA. It’s likely someone’s pet and an important part of their family. Maybe you don’t have pets, but your gross lack of empathy for how this loss will impact the people that cared about this cat is why you’re the asshole. One day you’ll lose something or someone you care about and you’ll understand why everyone around you is so disgusted by your callous response. Sometimes in life it’s better to keep your mouth shut – consider this your lesson.
YTA
Had you focused on that it was an accident? Fair. But yeah… this is going to stick to you and your reputation.
Yes. YTA. My god. Tell me you don’t have empathy without saying you don’t have empathy.
YTA. a cat is a living being, just like you! you aren’t superior to any animal! a cat goes through pain when it dies, and it is heartless for you to feel like an animal’s life doesn’t matter.
Yes. Absol-fucking-utely YTA.
The cat was a living creature. It had thoughts and feelings of its own, and would have felt pain. Being run over is not a pleasant way to go, especially for something as small as a cat. It was probably somebody’s pet, and therefore most likely loved by someone and that someone is probably *very* upset right now. Add to that, unless your principal is a complete sociopath, it was probably quite upsetting for him that he ran it over too; killing something is rarely a pleasant experience.
Saying “It’s just a cat” is the height of insensitivity.
Read the room. YTA.
YTA.
Generally if you see a lot of people upset about something, the response ‘why are you upset? It was insignificant’ is not going to sit well with people.
Apart from just ignoring the cat, you are dismissing other people’s feelings.
Do you struggle with empathy in other areas or only when it comes to animals? The fact that you say you genuinely don’t understand makes me wonder if this is an actual lack of empathy generally
