AITA for taking a shower while waiting for roommates package?

I told my roommate I would wait at home for his package that needed signing. During that time the package got marked out for delivery (which in my experience often lasts all day) and I didn’t see an estimated time of delivery on the tracker site. So I took a shower for like 10 minutes.

During that time (of course) the courier arrived, knocked on our neighbor’s door who then directed them to our door. I didn’t hear the knocking and the neighbor signed for it and I picked it up from our doorstep when I got out.

Roommate is acting pissy, not responding to my latest "All’s well that ends well" text. It’s so not a major thing, but I think its kinda a big ask to hang out all day at the house and not shower until the package is in hand. That also wasn’t the original ask, it was just, can you be here all day.

Obviously I could have just not showered but idk.

What do you think reddit? What should I have done?

  1. NTA. What happened could have happened while you were showering, or just using the bathroom. It’s a Murphy’s Law problem. Of course they showed up at the one inopportune moment. No one could have helped that.

  2. NTA he has his package what is the actual problem? That you didn’t stop your entire life to act as his package servant? What if you had been pooping for 10 minutes instead, would he have expected you to hold it all day?

    1. I feel like a lot of the comments haven’t had to wait for a package with an all day window? Where I am a signed package could be anywhere from like 8am to 9pm, even if they give a smaller window.

OP probably could have left the bathroom door open or something to hear better but doing something for 10 minutes isn’t unreasonable.

Comments are saying OP shouldn’t have agreed if they weren’t willing to be glued to the window all day but by that logic roommate should have made sure they’d be home if they weren’t willing to risk missing it

      1. Even a job gives you a couple of 15 minute breaks. Apparently this free favor has higher expectations.

I wouldn’t even be glued to the window for my own packages, I just keep an ear out if I know something’s getting delivered. I can’t waste an entire day just because something is arriving at some point. If it happens to arrive in the extremely limited window in which it would be inconvenient for it to do so, then that sucks but shit happens!

If the package was so important that I HAD to get it that day, I wouldn’t rely on someone else without making it extremely clear how important it was that the package be received that day. It’d be a big favor, or something I’d compensate for. I wouldn’t really expect anyone but my wife to do this for me for free.

  3. So… the package was still received the same day with no actual issue? What even is the problem with that?

  4. Look, if someone asks you to do something and its a big ask and that bothers you just say no. You want them to declared an AH for not responding to a text that doesn’t require a response??? YTA for making this larger than needs to be.

  5. NAH. You were doing your roommate a favor. They got their package. If they wanted someone to wait with their hand on the doorknob in anticipation of the knock, they should’ve done it themselves. You still got it safely in the house in under 10 minutes.

  6. YTA

You agreed to watch for the package, and then you stopped watching for the package. The shower could have waited.

If the shower *couldn’t* have waited for some reason, then you weren’t in a position to agree to watch for the package.

All’s well that ends well, sure, but if I were the roommate, I’d be upset too. The fact that it worked out doesn’t erase the fact that you didn’t do what you agreed to do.

    1. He agreed to be available at home should a package arrive, not to spend 10 hours staring out the window in anticipation.

  7. Nta. Ive had bathroom episodes that have taken 10 minutes. Being home doesn’t mean being on pause all day! It’s unfortunate but these things happen.

It doesn’t make you an AH
