AITA- for telling a lady to mind her manners and blowing her

The other day I (F19) was at Costco and I was waiting in line for samples and when brought out a lady (who looked ab 35) took two of them to which I replied with mind your manners as I found that quite rude, she responded to my comment with “excuse me?” to which i repeated myself and added don’t be greedy which I assume she didn’t like very much because she ran back to her husband and started pointing at me to which I made me start waving to them because if you are telling some else about me might as well say hi She waved back sarcastically, and I (trying to diffuse things and admittedly being a bit silly) blew her a kiss. She then flipped me off. I ignored it and went about my day.

What’s bothering me is that this all happened in front of her young child, and she appeared to be much older than me. I didn’t curse or make any obscene gestures, and I honestly didn’t expect the situation to escalate like it did.

My mom thinks I shouldn’t have said anything at all, while my dad thinks I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m wondering if I should have just stayed quiet instead.

  1. ESH or YTA, depending on specifics. INFO: She had a husband and a child. So did she possibly take one of the samples to share with them, or did you actually see her eat them both herself?

Either way, samples at Costco is not exactly some sort of serious life-and-death situation. Seems kind of like you just wanted to put someone else in their place. Generally in life I think you’ll go farther by not reacting to things that don’t concern you, unless you think there is real potential for someone else to get hurt.

  2. YTA

Since you brought up manners, I went to the authoritative source: Miss Manners. She is _extremely clear_ that is it unacceptable to chastise strangers in public. She says in so doing so, you yourself become the public nuisance.

    Mind your own manners.

  3. YTA

You kept escalating the situation when all you could have done was to leave her alone. So here we are.

  4. YTA. Why are you trying to school people on “manners”? Did you not get one? Did her behavior affect you in any way?

  5. She took two samples?!

Forget the cops, this needs to be elevated to the ICC.

That’s, Inner Costco Crime Unit to those that don’t know. They’re the same level as the FBI and CIA, of course.

She’s probably not even sleeping tonight, too focused on her next criminal escapade where she may escalate to jaywalking or something equally as heinous.

As you might imagine, I think you’re overreacting and YTA.

  6. Omg shes so rude! Doesn’t she know costcos are tiny and have very small inventories! Of course YTA. Who cares? Unless she took it out of your hands its really not your business. Its not like other customers are not gonna get some due to her actions. They’ll just put out more.

  7. Oh my god you seem so immature. Yes, YTA. Her behavior was rude and immature? Yours was WORSE. Doesnt matter if you “look younger than your age”
