my friend told me a very serious secret about her and it somehow got out in the open. someone i know came up to me and a group of people and told us about that secret. i then went and told her partner that it had been found and i accidentally said the person’s name that told me.
am i the asshole for saying the name of the person that told me the secret to the person that the secret’s about?

NTA. The title is about telling your friend their secret is out but then you ask if telling the name of the person that blabbed made you the AH. I don’t think either makes you the AH, you let your friend know and then you told the name of the person responsible. I think you had to do that out of self-preservation or else they may assume that it was you that let the secret out.
You definitely can’t keep anything quiet, they should know not to tell you any secrets
