AITAH for telling my roommate she can’t bring her new puppy into my side of our apartment?

So, I (24F) live with my roommate (25F) in a two-bedroom apartment. She just got a puppy and has been asking if it can stay inside my side of the apartment sometimes, when she is out at work and I am at home etc. I love dogs, but I have severe allergies, and even a short time around a puppy can makes me quite sick.

She got upset when I said no, arguing that it’s “just for a little while” and that the puppy needs socialization. I tried explaining my allergies, but she says I’m overreacting. Now she’s been avoiding me and leaving passive-aggressive notes about me “not being flexible.”

AITAH for prioritizing my health over her puppy?

  1. NTA this should have been discussed before she got a puppy, not forced on you because she got one and didn’t think about what she’s going to do with it

Be clear it’s her puppy, her responsibility, otherwise you’ll be asked to do walks, clean up after and basically do all the hard work

  2. nta. getting a puppy at all when your roommate is allergic to dogs is selfish, pitching a fit that the roommate won’t help socialize the dog is on a whole nother level.

this is not someone you should be listening to about things like this. they are not trustworthy about who is and is not being “flexible” or “an ah”.

  3. NTA.

You said she just got it, was that cleared with the landlord? I ask because most apartments either disallow pets or require a pet deposit, and if she isn’t supposed to have that pup, ***you*** are at risk of fines, eviction or being held responsible for any property damage. It doesn’t matter that the dog isn’t actually yours.

    Check your lease.

  4. NTA. If she wanted a puppy she should have spoke to you before hand and asked before hand about stuff like you looking after it when she isn’t home. since she hasn’t and got it without checking with you ur completely in the right to stand ur ground and say no

  5. NTA
U have allergies obviously the puppy shouldn’t be in your side of apartment it’s pretty well understood fact until and unless your roommate isn’t retarted or understands what allergies r

  6. NTA, in fact, she should have actually discussed getting a puppy with you first before doing so. She is selfish, her puppy, her problem.

  7. NTA. She may look into doggy daycares as a solution to 1) socialize the puppy and 2) keep peace in the home!

  8. NTA especially as she knows about your allergies. Rather selfish of her to get a puppy on that basis alone. Your health is important and she is not acknowledging this.

  9. YTA for making dumb stuff up.

You know how I can always tell these stories are made up? “She/They/Everyone said I’m overreacting.”

Nobody spells it out like that. Like these people very much exist but they don’t villain monologue over shit, they do other manipulative and toxic stuff like act passive aggressive and rude. They don’t tell someone to their face with allergies that they’re overreacting, they make your life uncomfortable and cross boundaries. You guys need to get more creative and figure out how to make this stuff sound more natural.
