I (70M) am surrounded by women at my home. I have my elderly mom, my wife, two daughters, a daughter-in-law, and five granddaughters (no grandsons). When I am at home, it doesn’t feel like I am surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I am the warden of a ladies hostel.
My only son and his wife (my daughter-in-law) have a young daughter and are planning to have another child. My son was visiting me today and I told him to at least have a boy this time so that our legacy could continue. My son’s daughter is the apple of his eye and I am worried he is going to have another girl because of this. My son didn’t take kindly to what I said.

That’s…that’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works. Do you really think that he (and his wife) are going to influence the gender of their next baby by going “oh I love this first girl so much”?!

You can want to have a grandson, and everyone could sympathize with your desire, but that you actually complain about it and are pressuring your son to pop out a boy like you are entitled makes you not on an AH with your family but the rest of society. You do realise the gender of the baby is determined by the semen (aka the male). Have 2 X daughters and only one son? That’s on you, champ! But hey, I’m sure your son took your request on board and is busy concentrating hard on re-working his genetic makeup.
