Hi all! Been dealing with a situation across the street with my neighbor for a little over 3 months now and I’ve had enough. They keep honking their horn everyday between 8:30am-9:00am over and over again to get someone I’m presuming staying in their house to come out so they can take them to school or work. When I say over and over again they’ll honk like 3-5 times aggressively then repeat it every thirty seconds for about a half hour. I am typically asleep at this time as I work overnights but so does a couple of my surrounding neighbors and I’d imagine even a good portion of my neighbors that don’t are still asleep around 8:30-9:00. This morning my sleep was interrupted because they were up to their horn playing antics, so I got fed up and went out to my front porch to confront them. I yelled across the street and told them to “cut the dang horn off, it’s too early for all of this, it’s disrespectful to lay on your horn this much, if this happens again tomorrow I will file a noise complaint!!” I feel awful for yelling at another person especially someone I share community with. AITA?

I have a lot of patience but sometimes I let that get the best of me and then I boil over like this. I feel bad but at the same time I don’t understand how someone can be this entitled this early in the morning and disregard everyone’s peace. Thank you. 🙏
File the noise complaint because it’s the proper way to do things. Then do yourself a favor and just imagine turning your hose on him when he honks his horn.

I’m surprised you waited 3 months for this. This wouldn’t happen more than once before I was out, half-dressed and making my feelings about it known.

Both the driver and the other person are AH, not only to all the neighbors, but to each other. Obviously if this has been going on for months, honking the horn is ineffective in addition to being obnoxious. They need to figure out their priorities and communication style.
Unfortunately, noise ordinances don’t usually factor in people on night shift. After 8am, the allowable noise level is much higher, and I’m not sure the typical car horn would qualify.
I mean…they are the asshole for doing it, and it’s probably more satisfying to calmly tell them that they are being stupid. We KNOW they have phones and can text the person. Would love to hear how they responded. You were in the right for saying SOMETHING, but obviously it didn’t make you feel good so maybe you should more calmly suggest they stop doing that.
NTA but I would have approached the neighbour calmly before yelling. You shouldn’t have had to put up with that but by yelling they’ll probably think you’re just a lunatic neighbour and are less likely to actually fix their behaviour.
NTA, I can’t believe all these ESH replies, it is wildly outrageous to be honking 3-5 times for 30min every day for 3 months in a neighborhood, regardless of what time it is or whether it’s quiet hours. The sheer disrespect for one’s neighbors and surroundings on display here is insane

Honestly forget early in the AM, doing this at 1pm is equally unacceptable.
The number one problem in the world is people’s lack of shame, we call it entitlement, but the root cause is really that we’ve stoped collectively shaming bad behavior as a society.
The reality is for these entitled people public shaming needs to come back and they need to feel the discomfort of being called out unkindly to fall back in line.
I agree with you! It’s already pretty annoying if someone honks 3 to 5 times once (just get out of the car or pick up the phone and text/call). Honking 3-5 times every 30 seconds for 30 minutes is so absurdly obnoxious and inconsiderate, I don’t care what time of day it is.
OP is definitely NTA. I don’t blame them for yelling. I’m surprised it took 3 months for them to get to that point.
