So here some background i used to work for a motel for 6 years.
Within the first 2 years of working at the motel they removed the pool entirely so no more photos or any mention of the pool was removed completely.
Then another 4 years passed which is my 6th year working for this motel.
A reservation came asking for a pool view of the pool. You can imagine to my surprise someone would ask for this when the pool been gone for 4 years. So I gave them a room 203 which this motel only has 2 stories its a nice room with a big bathroom with a big window the only room that has it. The bathroom window when you open it you can see the view of the pool of the motel next door.
They said view of the pool not which motel’s pool AITA for doing this to them.
YTA and you know it. You should have told them that you don’t have a pool, and asked if they wanted a view of the other hotel’s pool.
It was early in the morning so……I never saw them
YTA for not doing the professional thing and informing them there wasn’t a pool, but bonus points for creativity.
It was early in the morning so I couldn’t inform them so I gave them the best room we got just so happen to have view of the other pool.
I don’t understand how “early in the morning” means “couldn’t inform them”.
Surely you either have their email, their phone number (for a text message), or some messaging option within whatever booking app/website they used to send the reservation request?
Check-in is usually only from mid-afternoon at most hotels, so there was ample time to inform them “sorry, don’t have a pool”…
Early as in 1am in the morning.
No email was attached just phone number.
Third-party reservations dont give us emails. Didn’t help that only the manager has access to the third-party website to inform them through email.
Ah, I see. You should tell your manager to check out your listing on that third-party website to make sure it does not in some way still create the impression that you do have a pool…
At the time I did text him about that and after several hours then said I will look into it after that
If he did it I will never know cause the property was quite literally sold 4 months after that so its pretty much gone now.
Ah, the joys of Hotel/Motel room allocation. Simply put, Pool view is a request. Requests cannot always be accomodated. They didn’t pay extra for a a pool view if you don’t have one and if they were charged extra then your motel managment are AHs.
NAH. There’s nothing else you can do.
Yeah we dont charge more for it.
We charge for the room and if any requests we try to give it to them if possible. I did give them the room that is the only room with a big bathroom and big bathroom window.
If you in some way indicated to them that you have granted their request, then Y-T-A.
If you told them that you don’t have a pool (and thus no view of it) and “I gave you our best room with the biggest bathroom, and oh by the way, it happens to have a view of the neighboring pool”, you would be N-T-A and they might even find it funny (I would).
If you just assigned them the room without further comment or contact, N-T-A, it is not unusual to add requests to a reservation but to only find out once one gets to the room whether they have been granted. In this case they would then, when they realize there is no pool, also realize why there is no pool view (and might not even notice that technically there is a “pool view” from the bathroom).
However, it would have been good to try and find out why they think there is a pool… Maybe there is still some booking site or something out there that shows the pool and that the people who removed the mentions of the pool missed, and you can only rectify that if you know where it is…
EDIT: Based on OP’s replies about simply assigning the room without pretending to the customer that they granted the request, NTA.
Yeah I totally agree with you but however this was super early in the morning 🌄
I didnt want to try to contact them wake them up for it. I just gave them the best room and locked it in so no one else would move them.
I still don’t understand how “early morning” means “no contact possible” in this day and age where text messages and emails are more common than phone calls, but since it sounds like the “technically you can see a pool from that room” part was just your thinking process for giving them that room, not something you actually told them and painted as a “granted request”, NTA.
