AITA the asshole for unplugging my dad’s tablet?

I, (15M) have 2 phone chargers in my room, but they charge like absolute shit. \~13 hours to charge 65%, so I often have to use my Dad’s (42M) charger. One day after I took four finals and 3 hours of therapy, I ended up forgetting to wait for his tablet to charge (It takes about 1-2 hours, and my therapy ends at 8). The next day when I get home from school, he gets passed about it, even though it had only happened once before this, making this the second time. He then banned me from using that charger, even though my phone doesn’t charge fast enough without it. When I told him. I was gonna use it anyway, he said he would bring it to work with him (He works graveyard). AITA here?

  1. **When I told him. I was gonna use it anyway, he said he would bring it to work with him**

Your dad is a Rockstar. What kind of therapy do you have for three hours? Why can’t you just buy a charger?

  2. I’m sorry your chargers don’t work well, but the bottom line is that he owns the charger and he gets to do what he wants with it, even if it’s at your expense.

  3. You need to ask before using someone else’s stuff. Telling him that you’re going to do it anyway is very entitled and disrespectful. I’ll bet you would not treat your friend like that.

Are their chores you can do to earn money for a new charger?

It’s your dad’s charger and he has the right to tell you not to use something of his anymore. That is called a boundary.

You have two chargers of your own, but keep using his. It’s fair that he had an issue with it when you unplugged *his* device to use *his* charger instead of using your own.

He shouldn’t have to take his things to work to stop you from using them without permission. You’re old enough to know better.

  6. You having a long day doesn’t give you an excuse to unplug his stuff.

Telling him you’re going to use his stuff no matter what he says is not a good move.

YTA – get a better charger. Buy one yourself, ask for one, or ask if you can do chores or other household stuff to earn one.
