AITA to play music loudly in the living room?

My parents play poker for two hours and call with relatives for another two overnight in the living room. My bedroom is <3m away from where they play poker and <1m away from where they make the calls. I’ve repeatedly told them not to play so loud (they’d slam cards on tables, shout at each other etc eveytime) and they respond with

"I own this place. I can do whatever I want however sound I want"

"You’re too whiny, you’re worth less than a dog. I should’ve gotten a dog than have you"

I can neither study nor sleep when they do that.

I HEAR THEM THROUGH THE MY ANC HEADPHONES ON MAX. So I decided to move my studying to the same place they play poker and make calls. Where they slam cards down and shout to each other or to their phones, I blow up my music. I did it when they tried to sleep. They blew up on me with insults. I told them it’s not my music that’s triggering them but the fact that they’re on the receiving end of things this time.

They need to be more mindful of noise late at night.

You need to understand your behavior is only going to antagonize things. Petty payback only escalates behavior, it doesn’t resolve it.

  2. NTA. Please get out of that living situation as soon as you can. Your parents are probably worse than most roommates are, so you’ll be better off without them if you can support yourself.

The living room is for living. If they’re at work during the day, then yes, the evening is when they will play cards and call relatives. That’s quite normal behaviour.

You’re studying, so playing loud music isn’t really necessary, you’re just trying to make a point.

      1. No, I wouldn’t think that’s okay at all.

But that’s not in your post, and it doesn’t really change anything.

  4. INFO: How old are you?

If you’re not an adult yet, NTA and your parents suck

If you’re an adult then ESH
