AITA very confused about this please read about my driving experience

I was driving on the pa turnpike going east towards New York and this 18 wheeler with “force extensions” on the back (I looked up the company but nothing came up) I tried passing him because I don’t like being near trucks I have a coupe it’s tiny, it’s a bit scary. So anyways I try and pass him and he tries to swing his back at me at first and he was honking constantly. So I tried just getting ahead him and he was honking and honking even while I was miles away and flashing his lights, so maybe thinking there’s a reason I need to fall back , I do. And after I fell back he tried running me off the road with his truck. Was this guy trying to play road king? Was he deliberately trying to be an asshole and hurt me ? I tried calling the cops they did nothing. I want to make a report but I couldn’t get close to him for his plate number sadly what should I do and what was his motive any truck drivers in here that have a problem with being passed by a car and no I wasn’t blinding him or disturbing him in any way

  1. It would be interesting to hear the truck drivers side of this but acting aggressive while driving is never the correct choice so if that part of your story is true then they are an asshole regardless of if you are too

  2. I never “fight” with 18 wheelers. I wouldn’t win. I would’ve slowed down some, and let them lead the way. Truckers will flash their lights to alert you to a cop up ahead, or another hazard you might not be aware of. The only other thing I wonder is if you were going up or down a hill. Trucks try really hard to speed downhill, so they have enough ‘steam’ to get up the next hill, without having to pull over in the roadside to get up that hill.

I can’t really say whether anyone is the AH here. I’m thinking NAH.

  3. NTA tbh, I totally get how you feel about driving next to trucks. I guess he might have thought you were trying to overtake him? But still him driving like that is dangerous and completely messed up – I hope you’re okay after what must have been a scary experience

      1. Oh damn maybe you did something you didn’t notice or that guy was just a AH. Probably the latter. I drive trucks and even I deal with ppl like this. For whatever reason passing them hurts their ego even though they’re going under the speed limit until I decide to pass and now they wanna play racers.

  4. I’m trying to understand completely. You were driving, caught up to a truck, and tried to pass him on the left? He then tried to swerve into you so you accelerated away?

Or did he catch up to you in the beginning?

Regardless, if he tried running you off the road he’s TAH.

    1. I passed him on the right slowed down bec he was honking and honking so I thought it was for me to fall back after I fell back he tried running me off the road

  5. YTA – this is road rage. You drive on the road, you don’t engage into odd intervehicle communication. There is no “he did this, and I did that” there is just drive, or don’t drive. If the vehicle is driving dangerously, don’t drive near it. You have a chip on your shoulder, when you make a mistake it will turn into an accident that you will say “it’s not my fault” and “there was nothing I could do about it” because this is how you drive. Be better than this.

  6. Not enough info to judge generally, but stop passing 18 wheelers on the right. It’s dangerous because of the large blind spot created by the trailer, even if it’s technically legal it’s risky behavior and it’s possible that the truck driver’s initial reaction wasn’t “trying to swing his back” at you, but trying to move right into a lane they thought was clear.
