Your joke was bad, you told a pregnant woman she was big, and when you were almost out of the woods, you added “how defeating” then just thumbs up and “keep me in your rear view mirror”. Just for that last one i would have dumped you. Because that’s litterally what you are telling her to do. She’s telling you what you did is not acceptable, and you are being childish. You don’t seem to care about this woman or how what you said made her feel. Just because you didn’t mean to insult her doesn’t mean it wasn’t offensive or at the very least insensitive. She’s right that with the distance you should put extra effort in being present. The way you handle conflict is very toxic
I mean it was a bad joke, it didn’t land. Don’t make jokes at the expense of your gf. It’s not nice nor is it appreciated. I mean the saying is you’re a shell of your former self. It was a bad joke to make to a pregnant women and your ‘thumbs up’ reply just tipped it all off. That alone would have sent me off the fucking edge.
There is no scenario where she needs to be the one apologizing. Even if you thought it was a funny joke, just apologize and never make a joke like that again.
This was really mean. And to top it off instead of just admitting you were wrong you had to double down, even after knowing you hurt her feelings. That’s even worse. Everyone can stick their foot in their mouth but that you refused to take accountability and tried to make it her fault (even here on this post) really shows your character.
