WIBTA for snitching on my friend?

I (16F) was working with my friend (16F) on an assignment together. Let’s call her Lisa. We were supposed to be in groups of 3, but I was ok doing the extra work. I offered to do 2 parts of the assignment as long as Lisa did 1 part. She agreed and I did my parts of the assignment.

I ended up noticing that she wasn’t doing any of the work as the deadline approached, so I did some of her work. The day the assignment was due, I decided to stop waiting and did all her part for her. I had texted her beforehand telling her to please do her work. Several hours later, I turned in the work. Lisa had done nothing. I went to bed and then woke up the next day. I found out that Lisa responded to my text at 12 in the morning (she said that she had just seen the text then), and that she had just seen my text then. I told her I’d tell the teacher that she did 1/3 of the work.

I also basically ignored her the whole day. I also told her that I’d be giving her too much credit since she didn’t do anything, and that if she did this again I’d work with someone else. I apologized later for getting mad at her.

The teacher asked for us to send in our notes. I’m thinking of submitting my notes and writing a comment telling her that I had done most of the work.

Wibta for doing this? Specifically because I had told Lisa that it would be fine.

  1. YWBTA because you told her its fine. Going behind her back would be worse than if you had just told the teacher right away that she didn’t do anything.

  2. YWBTA here if you told Lisa it would be fine, and then wrote the comment that you did most of the work to the prof. It is ONLY that you told Lisa one thing and then the comment would say another that makes this A-holery.

The right process here is to submit your notes WITHOUT comment to the prof, and let the prof decide what Lisa did and did not do, and what kind of mark she deserves. Lisa won’t be able to submit any notes, and unless your prof is in an absolute haze, they will know what that means. This preserves what you offered to Lisa, and still should see you credited, whether that’s extra marks or not.

  3. nope, this is a good practice to build and get used to now. A LOT of people will in the real world with money on the line do this crap right here. nip it in the bud with an early life lesson.

  4. If she didn’t do any work then she shouldn’t get any credit. Cover your ass and don’t give her a single note! YWNBTA

  5. You’re TA to yourself for letting her get away with it and still trying to give her credit. As mentioned above, the professor will see from notes that she didn’t do much.
