I (29F) was dating my ex (36m) long distance for 4 months. We broke up a few days ago but I still have my plane tickets for our next trip (Thailand) in my name that are non-exchangeable or refundable.
The problem is that my ex paid for these tickets before we broke up, and I’ve had conflicting opinions from those close to me if I would be an AH for using them.
Some say I should go for it, and that the money would be wasted either way so I may as well use them. Others say it’s in poor taste and taking advantage of the situation to go somewhere on his dollar still, especially since not going wouldn’t cost me anything.
I’m in two minds myself, as I’ve already gotten time off approved to go and would love a solo trip (kind of nervous but excited for the experience as I have never done that before and probably would never have planned to before this happened!), but also I do feel bad for my ex funding my plane ticket to go on the trip we were meant to (even though the money is lost regardless).
For the record, when we broke up he did message me “maybe find someone else to go to Thailand and get a cheaper hotel you could afford, you still have the tickets.” But this was said in a snarky way not genuinely…
