WIBTAH if i didn’t make the pie that got the most votes because it wasn’t on the poll in the first place?

i put a poll in my workplace for Pi Day. For anyone that doesn’t know, Pi Day is March 14 because 3.14 is the first 3 digits of pi, so you eat pie that day. I’m the baker of the office, I think everyone in my office is aware (we’re 24/7, the night people may not know). I put the poll up to see what kind of pie the office wanted for Pi Day. nobody asked me to. I just did.

the poll had 13 different pies. and still someone added two more types of pie on there. people will be disappointed if i don’t bring one of the pies that was added, because it now has the most votes. my name’s not on the poll, but I told people I was putting it up.

WIBTAH if i ignored the added pie option and made the pie that got the most votes that WAS originally on the poll?

tbh I’m more upset about the principle than having to make the pie. If I saw a poll like this, I wouldn’t add another option cuz I didn’t Like the others. I would just not vote and not eat the pie, cuz it’s not my money or time being spent to make it. What if that option is more expensive? Or what if the fruit is out of season? now I have to find a good recipe for a pie that I wasn’t planning on having as an option.

      1. Original options:
        apple,
        Mixed berry,
        Butterscotch cinnamon,
        cheesecake,
        cherry,
        Coconut cream,
        French silk/chocolate mousse,
        Chocolate chip cookie,
        Key lime,
        Peanut butter chocolate,
        Pecan,
        pumpkin,
        Salted maple.

        Added options:
        Banana cream,
        Chocolate pie

  1. They don’t get to tell you what choices you offer. NTA

That being said, those who voted may have assumed that you added those others yourself and didn’t necessarily vote for you to bake outside your comfort zone. Someone in your office is an entitled asshole/joker, but it may not go further than that.

Put the list up again, this time with a note that only the original 13 pies will be selected from.

    1. Yes NTA.

^ And good idea on redoing the poll. Just include a message saying  those 2 pies can’t be made.

Pie is pie, they will be grateful for what you bring OP

  2. Probably nta, but what flavor won out of curiosity? I would tell people you are not going to make the ssid pie though.

  3. NTA

Just add a little scribble and an arrow to the two additional options that says: “No such thing!”, “Nope!”, “No can do!”, “Heathens!”, “Baker says no” or something else that’s funny and lighthearted and then circle the pie that won the original competition. It’s fun, everyone will know what’s up and you get to make the pie you offered.

  4. NTA. You provided options that you were willing to make. The list was your boundary. They went outside those options. You now don’t have to make anything, enforcing your boundary. The winning pie is not available from you.

  5. NTA. Also it’s very funny readinåg so many people forgot about physical polls😅 you do not have to go out of your way to make a different pie or a special poll no one can add things to

  6. Nope. Simple solution would be to send out an office email saying, “Hey, I see someone added a rhubarb pie (or whatever it was) to the poll and it has a lot of votes. I can’t make rhubarb pies, so I’m going to make a cherry pie instead, since that has the next number of votes. If anyone else wants to make a rhubarb pie, go ahead. I’m sure the rhubarb pie lovers in the office will appreciate it!”

If anyone complains, they’re the AH.

  7. NAH

I am the baker for my office as well. I offer to bake things and I just bring things in, depending on my mood. I have offered to bake something and had coworkers all chime in saying “oh, can you bake X instead?” When that happens, I have to think if I have the ingredients at home, do I want to buy them, do I feel like baking that… Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t, sometimes my coworkers pool their money to pay for whatever they hoped I would bake.

The end vote is – you can bake it or not. I bet nobody is going to complain with pie sitting in front of them. If you don’t want to bake the written in winner, then don’t. If anyone wants to complain, you can just say you didn’t include that pie for reasons.
