One of my closest friends has spiralled downwards over the last 3 years due to alcoholism. His lost his wife and 2 kids, his high paying career is at risk. Going through a messy divorce.
I started with gentle comments and feedback to cut out the alcohol. I now tell him very sternly and give him a lot of shit for this being his fault and how he will end up homeless.
**Biggest issue: he won’t admit he is an alcoholic and it’s hard to have a proper conversation because of that.**
AITAH for wanting to cut ties? How much do I owe him? Am I morally obligated to stick by him?
He won’t change until he hits rock bottom. You can remain his friend but you don’t have to stick by him while he is spiraling. Offer to help him if he comes to his senses and gets help. Until then nothing more you can do for him. NTA
Cut off an alcoholic addict r very destroyer & toxicity, they won’t change … u r invite disaster in u life .
