AITA – dog pooped near someone’s driveway

My wife and I were walking our dog earlier. He’s the type of dog that doesn’t search for a place to do his business, he just randomly squats during a regular walk to poo.

This time it happened on the sidewalk right in front of someone’s driveway. I immediately picked it up with a poop bag. A neighbour (not the owner of the drive way) came running and telling me off for letting my dog poo there. I told her I immediately picked it up and could not stop him as he was very quick to squat down.

She was still visibly annoyed but I walked on. Later during the walk my wife said that she believes I’m in the wrong there and I was effectively the asshole.

I don’t see how that is the case here.

Curious to hear your opinion!

  1. NTA. You picked up the dog poop. And the dog didn’t even poop somewhere where it would be understandable to be upset about it even after it’s been picked up – like a flower bed or something. It was a sidewalk.

  2. NTA. Your neighbor is a moron. I would accept sleeping on the couch for a few days to win this argument because its so obvious that you did nothing wrong. Dogs poop outside. Non-Asshole dog owners pick up the poop.

  3. Nope, nta, not in the wrong. You cannot always control where your dog poops. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. You picked it up. That’s ALL that matters. You are a responsible dog owner. I would’ve asked her to throw the bag away for me! What an ass.

  4. NTA; you cleaned up your dog’s mess as soon as it had finished.

Maybe, there’s a way of training your dog to do its business elsewhere; but I’ve never heard of such a thing.

  5. NTA.

Dogs will poop wherever they decide to poop! You picked it up as soon as the dog was done, so how could you be in the wrong???

Does your wife believe you have some Dr. Doolittle skills that the rest of us need to have??? If so, please train us poor padawans!

  6. NTA, from what I read.

Did your wife think you should have thrown it on the neighbor or something? I’m struggling to understand what your wife’s problem could have been.

  7. NTA. You picked it up.

My dog knows grass is where she is supposed to go but sometimes the urge hits so hard she goes on the sidewalk. Accidents happen.

For people complaining that it leaves a stain… Well birds shit all over roads, sidewalks, cars, houses, etc. and that’s acceptable. At least this person tried to remedy it.

  8. I have a little dog that does “walking poops.” He doesn’t even squat. Just walks, does break his pace and drops deuces. I have to be very on guard to make sure I see it and get it. Trust me, you can not always train dogs. Like humans, sometimes times you get a really stupid one. I have a very stupid one (but loveable!!)
