AITA for accidentally flipping a slice of pizza while grabbing lunch

I was at work and went to grab a slice of pizza from the box in the work room. I washed my hands, opened the box, and pulled out a slice.

The slices were stuck together, so when I grabbed mine, I just separated the slices from the others. One slice flipped over and another ended up overlapping onto a different slice. Nothing dramatic. Just normal pizza stuff.

I didn’t fix it because it’s pizza. I genuinely didn’t think it mattered if a slice was a little flipped or leaning. People were still going to eat it, and the food wasn’t contaminated or anything.

Literal seconds after grabbing a slice, a superior got up, opened the box, and said “Look at this!” in this irritated tone, going on about how I just “left it like that.” They acted like I’d committed some huge offense.

I honestly wasn’t trying to be disrespectful. I just didn’t think a couple slices being out of formation in a break room pizza box was a big deal.

AITA for not rearranging the slices, or was she overreacting?

TL;DR: I grabbed a slice of pizza on lunch, a couple slices flipped, I didnt fix it because its pizza, and superior threw a fit as if I’ve committed a crime/big mistake. AITA?

    1. Honestly I think the fact is so normal day to day stuff is both quite refreshing from the almost certainly fake or exaggerated stuff on the sub and it makes it less likely to be AI

  1. NAH it’s annoying to have pizza slices stuck together and it probably looked wild to have a couple upside down but I get why you didn’t touch other people’s pieces of pizza. If there was a fork or something I would have flipped it over to right side up but you’re NTA for not doing it.

  2. NAH. I don’t like when my pizza sticks together & if I was sharing pizza I’d definitely fix it for the next person. Doesn’t make anyone an AH so not sure why this is a post lol

  3. I think what you’re saying is the pizza flipped onto another slice so now it’s cheese to cheese and you left it like that. If that’s the case, mild YTA, because those slices if immediately fixed will have only mild pizza trauma. But if left like that for a while it will turn into pizza bumping uglies til they’re so intertwined that both pieces will be mostly inedible without ruining one and creating a monster slice of the other. Common pizza knowledge 🤷🏻‍♀️

  4. YTA, I guess? If it is possible to have an asshole in this minor situation, you’re it. It is a small small small thing, but yeah, you messed up the pizza and didn’t return it to how it was.

**Edit for info**: I’ll give you benefit of the doubt – was it fresh pizza, or cold pizza?

Cold pizza won’t experience any harm from being upside down. The cheese is already solid, so it won’t stick to the box. Fresh pizza the longer you leave a slice upside down the more it’ll stick to the box and you’ll end up with a naked wet dough slice when you turn it over.

  5. ESH but in the very mildest sense for all. You should have taken more care to leave the remaining pizza in a tidy state for the rest of the group. It’s a small courtesy to make a better shared experience of the pizza. The supervisor should have resisted the urge to publicly shame your small lapse in courtesy. You both were lacking in social graces during this pizza lunch, but no serious harm was done.

  6. YTA because unless someone comes and takes the flipped-over slice soon (which btw is going to be the last one anyone goes for), it’s going to harden face-down and then the topping layer is going to peel off and be stuck to the box. And the overlapping slices are similarly going to stick together. This is basic pizza etiquette.

EDIT: OP says the tops had already solidified, so that’s a different scenario. And it makes the argument seem even more insignificant than it already did. However FWIW I still think I agree with the boss. It’s like, there’s no actual harm to anyone, but it still feels kind of rude and inconsiderate to leave the communal food in a shambles like that.

  7. There’s a world in which office pizza lives long enough for someone to criticize its appearance? *Golly.*

    NTA

  8. Mild YTA, it’s not the end of the world, but it wasn’t considerate. Think about other people more & you’ll have fewer situations like this one.

  9. YTA. How hard is it to take a slice of pizza and leave the rest presentable for everybody else? You flipped over a whole damn slice so the cheese is grabbing the box. Animal.
