AITA for asking my brother to buy me new jeans after his cat urinated on mine?

I don’t live near my brother and was doing something else in that rough area. Unfortunately I missed the last train back to where I live and had no possible way of getting back home, or even close to home that night.

I rang my brother and he said I could stay at his on the sofa bed. Great I thought and made my way there.

Everything was fine but when I woke up in the morning to get dressed I realised my jeans were wet and they stank and it was obvious his cat had urinated on them in the night.

He’s a lot bigger than me so I couldn’t borrow any of his clothes so had to go back home on the train wearing those jeans and stinking of cat urine. I hadn’t expected to stay overnight so had brought no other clothes with me.

The jeans were ruined due to stains and lingering smell so I asked my brother to send me £20 get a new pair. He said no because he gave me a free place to stay that night. I pointed out I’d have always done that for him too and he wouldn’t have had his clothes ruined by an untrained cat.

He’s refusing to pay and is saying I’m being an arsehole for even asking for the money after he gave me a place to stay.

So come on Reddit, AITA for asking for money for a new pair of jeans?

ETA : I have washed the jeans twice, there’s a distinct stain and I can still smell the cat urine. I accept that smell might be psychosomatic, but either way, I can’t wear them again.

    1. If there are lingering odors, put a cup of vinegar in wash and it will take care of it. YTA your brother gave you a place to crash, I’m guessing you knew about the cat and I hope you at least rinsed the jeans before wearing them. I’d rather wear wet jeans than cat
      pissy jeans.

    1. That’s the big question here, at least for me.

I’ve had cats for 14 years, I’ve had them puke on my clothes, have accidents on them as kittens. Never had anything “ruined” by it. Not by smell or stain. Worst I’ve ever had to do is use some stain remover.

  1. I’ve had a cat who was a real jerk who peed on a lot of stuff.  Only once was something damaged so that it couldn’t be cleaned and it wasn’t jeans.  YTA and unreasonable.  Jeans can be washed easily.

  2. Don’t be ridiculous. Put some white vinegar in with your laundry detergent, wash them ASAP in warm water and your jeans will be fine.

  3. Wash the jeans. They make spray to get urine out. The pants aren’t ruined and yeah he did you a solid by letting you stay over when you needed it.
What I want to know is where were your pants that the cat could piss on them? Like did you just leave them on the floor or were they with your things in a tidy pile?

  4. Crazy that nobody here is talking about enzyme solutions like anti icky poo. Absolutely destroys the smell

NTA. Its kinda lame on both sides ngl, but it really sucks that they sent you home in piss jeans. I dont think its that deep as to warrant an argument but it is frustrating. Soak the stain in anti-icky-poo or any other enzyme based urine destroyer type solution and the smell will be gone, hopefully the stain as well.
