Small background here, I own a small specialized welding shop most of the time it’s just me working but the 3-4 days a week I have a sub contractor that comes in. Today a guy comes in that’s a cook at a local restaurant that has really good pizza. Wants small piece welded and a couple holes drilled half hour or so of work. I said no problem and he asked how much so I said bring us pizza for lunch and that will be good. So I do the job and the guy brings two pizzas and a bottle of pop for lunch. So the sub contractor and I enjoy pizza for lunch but we had a whole pizza left over. At the end of the day we’re heading home he says to me “I’m taking that other pizza home for the wife and I”, I said no that’s my pizza. He kinda laughs and grabs the pizza box. I said I was serious. He gets mad calls me an asshole for being selfish and the me and him are a team. I explained how it’s my shop, my tools, my consumables and me that did the job. So I’m taking it home for my supper! Am I the asshoke like he thinks?
NTA. Dude definitely should have at least asked if you minded if he took the pizza home. To just take it was very presumptuous
NTA. The pizzas were your payment.
NTA. IF you did the job as you said. And he did not even offer to split the pizza.
Nta
NTA – you did the work. You got the payment. He could have easily asked. If it’s me, just asking makes it likely I at least offer to split it. He could have done this differently and gotten a good compromise.
No NTA because the pizzas were your payment so in this case they were like what cash would have been. You are already generous enough to share one of them with him for lunch and you should have been able to take the other one home because it was yours because of the work that you did for him
NTA, and that dude would be finding a new shop…. That’s crazy entitled
NTA… You were nice enough to split it with him at lunchtime even though you did the job yourself. It would have been rude for him to ask if it was ok to take or split the second pizza if he didn’t help on the project. Assuming it’s his to take and then swearing at you is extremely rude and hostile.
NTA, he was TA for grabbing it and trying to take it when you were the one who negotiated it. If he’s a good worker I would’ve split it with him, or left it there in the shop for you both to eat tomorrow if you have a fridge. If you’re a team, you do things together, including eat pizza.
So long as your sub got paid, that’s all he should get!
NTA. It’s one thing if he made the incorrect assumption, but then he also doubled down with the entitlement and got upset. At the every least he could have asked to split it if he wanted it that bad.
NTA, the pizzas were used as payment for the work the shop did in lieu of money. OP is the owner of the shop and gets to decide how this payment gets distributed.
Nope. 100% your pizza. Thats dude is a dick for trying to take it.
Who the heck asks their boss (if he’s the subcontractor and you own the shop) to take the rest of a meal home? I could understand if you said you would throw it away and he said “nah man I’ll take that home!”, but you don’t offer to take something of your bosses; and you especially don’t get offended when they say ‘yo I actually am taking that’.
Sounds like a great way to not be a subcontractor any longer, NTA
